Why must traditionalism be synonymous with "workmanlike" materials and finish? I think the new interior represents a satisfactory integration of past with present: the verticality of the IP, the dual cowls and the deeply recessed gauges remain with tighter joins and more padded materials. Congratulations Ford!
I think my argument is that it need not have been such an either/or process, that style need not be traded off for refinement (or good ergonomics for that matter). Too often, however, these two demands are often seen at the opposite poles of a sliding scale, or if both are to be realized, only at exorbitant cost. I think my example of the new Fiesta shows that both high style, albeit a different one than a Stang's, and excellent refinement are not mutually exclusive nor expensive.

All that said, the new interior does appear to be very nice, hardly a failure by any stretch and perhaps taken as a whole, an overall improvement. It does retain some iconic Mustang stylistic cues -- it's not totally generic -- and simply looks like more attention was paid to materials and craftsmanship.

And, presuming that these early shots are of the V6, then perhaps the higher end models will show even better.

This comment is all over this forum in one way shape or form. I can appreciate the styling cues from the past as much as anyone else, but let's remember, this is the 21st Century and Ford needs the attention of a new generation of drivers.

The 2010 Camaro, Hyundai Genesis, Challenger, Nissan GT-R and other coupes are breathing down our necks, all with modern technolgies, IRS and more fuel efficient engines. Complaining about how the air vents aren't classic enough or the tail and head lights don't take enough cues from the classic stangs is just a waste of space IMHO.

This is the 2010 Mustang.... in order for it to evolve and stay on the minds of car buyers, Ford needs to look more towards the future and less towards the past. Otherwise, there won't be a new Mustang for us to Micro-criticize.

Not trying to **** anyone off... Just a little tired of hearing people write the car off because of a meaningless part or small styling cue.
Well said.

If anything, this new interior is more "classic" that the previous one, IMO. As I've said, the new interior looks very much like the ones in the '67-'68 Mustangs, even down to the rectangular center A/C vents. As I recall, the '65-'66 Mustangs had a centrally mounted underdash A/C unit so I don't really see a huge similarity with the '05-'09 Mustangs there.

I'm guessing traction control??

In All Honesty...The New vents I love JUST for the fact that they look like they will cut down on the chance of Rattles in that department....The **** ones we have now those rings in which you can turn around cause alot of noise and I am all for a more tighter and quieter version. thats just my 2 cents.

Well it doesn't seem like they are using the 65-66 style. They need to throw in the 67-68 style instrument panel style in it.

Can't wait to see the LCD screen in the dash instead of the basic controls....

Guages look wicked. A lot cleaner
And i really like the current interior...even though it's getting dated, and the hard materials.

This is a NICE step up. Can't wait to see the IUPs

***and that looks like the old stearing wheel...or the basic one sticks with the current design, the other one we've seen with the metal finish is a LOT nicer
Ditto!

It looks a lot more like the 67-68 cougar instead of the 67-68 mustang to me. If ambient lighting is there I would bet mycolor is there and they can all be controlled by the same controller. I like the emblem on the steering wheel though. I will be getting the brake lever and brake boot if it can retrofit.

Don't get too worked up on MyColor. Ford had already mentioned before that it wouldn't make the new car, as the cost of it was rather expensive to produce and add to a car. I hope I'm wrong, but from what I have heard, I'm not gonna be.

You are correct- that is the base interior- these are the IUPs- looks like we keep the aluminum dash panels and the cool new wheel w/ audio controls. It will look sweet. My friend tells me the dash is soft and cushy unlike the cheap plastic from today.

I'm glad they kept the brushed inserts in the steering wheel as well. All black would have been boring.

Uh, they did. Looks like a 67-68, right down to the curve of the console into the centerstack and the square center air vents and outer rounds ones:

1967-68 Cougar was based on 1967-68 Mustang, but was more horizontal and straight across- didn't have the eyebrows at the top like Mustang.

Very nice interior. It just sucks that they always get a spy pic of the lowest base model. Because then everyone think its the best they have to offer. I wanna see it with SYNC and the IUP! Looks infinitely better than the camaro and challenger interior already imo

I like how the console storage lid is not raised like the current lid is. More elbow room when power shifting.
