the good old argument about oil change

5-30 is only 20% thicker in viscosity vs 5-20 at operating temps. Ford clearly prefers 5-30 but stood to save significant money by switching to 5-20. The tp and boss run 5-50 for extreme wear protection.

But no way all these guys who own Boss mustangs and GT trac pack mustangs are tracking there cars yet still using 5W 50. Lol. What it does show that clearly 5W50 does lubricate the tight specs of our engines so no need for 5W 20. If someone runs there mustang hard at times on the street like me 5W 30 is the perfect blend!

Not the case. Honda for one has always used 5 or even 10-30. Always. And still does. Does that correlate to their forever lasting motors?? Idk. I'm sure others that have moved to 5-20 have done so for similar reasons. It's not like cafe is new. I'm also not sure why after the skeptics have been calling for a ford engineer to speak to this, when we get TWO, it's shrugged off as one out of a thousand.... The bottom line is, (per ford engineers) we really shouldn’t be running 5w20. The switch from 5w30 in 1999 to 5w20 in 2001 (on identical engines) had nothing to do with wear or reliability issues and everything to do with Ford saving a few bucks by meeting CAFE standards. At the time Ford was fined $5.50 for every 1/10th of a MPG under the target average of 27.5 MPG for every vehicle manufactured. To help meet the target Ford changed from 5w30 to 5w20 and was able to improve mileage by 1/16th of a MPG and meet their goals. While most people understand the main function of oil is to protect the engine, Ford's primary concern in that respect is that the engine survives the warranty period. Do they last longer? Sure ford makes a great motor. But to the guy that got all butt hurt over me suggesting that ford doesn't care what happens out of warranty especially when they make money from it, I hope you realize that ford is in business to make money. Not fulfill your fantasies.

And yes, Ford is in the business of making money - you do that by not having motors fail just out of warranty.

Changing the oil at 5,000 is the best choice, and no more than 5000 thereafter. But you really need to run 5W-20 oil if that is what is on the cap, you will find that many people say it dont matter, and they are 100% incorrect. These are not push rod engines, the timing components MUST have the correct oil used. Timing can be changed with the incorrect wait of oil. People are going to say I am crazy, but trust me with over 40 years of ford experience. Hope this helps.

7500 miles is waiting to long, because know one takes in account for all the eliding we do and low RPM Traffic jams. In the end that would be more like 12000 Miles.

7,500 miles too long for someone using a synthetic oil? No way bro. Ford recommends 10,000 oil change intervals and that's using there 50/50 blend. That doesn't take into a count with a synthetic base III oil or a true base IV synthetic. By all means change your oil as frequent as you like but 7500 miles is not too long with the correct oil.

Lol... I already called it back when this was on page 1, 4 posts in. As others have stated, all this info is same regurgitated info that's been discussed over and over again. Any oil thread posted by someone with less than 100 posts should be closed by the mods and links given to existing oil threads.
