i am buying a mustang because it is a daily driver, i want a factoryfive 65 and a m3 also, those are sunday cars like a harley or ducati is a sunday use bike, i don't want to park the 65 at the grocery store when i shop, lets compare apples to apples
I grew up in the 60s with carbed cars. My first was a 289 Mustang coupe. I thought I was hot stuff back in the day. That car was terrible by todays standards. I still have a love for the classic mustangs and mean no disrespect but these are the good old days right now. Some things I dont like about technology but mostly it has improved things in a big way.
I still like those old carbed cars but man its hard to beat how reliable cars are today with electronics. I was always working on that old Mustang with its drum brakes all around. My Mustang is a 03 now and has 4 wheel disc brakes and they are just flat awesome imo. When I was 16 I could care less about those sorts of things. Its amazing how we change over the years.

My first car as a '72 Mustang with a 302. Oh, how I wanted a bigger engine.
And you remember what we did to those cars in the day - pull the small V8 and stuff in a big cube stump puller V8 from an old station wagon. Hmmm... The stump puller days are gone. I'll bet that 5.0 would look nice in my 05.
I also find it hilarious that they're ignoring the Fusion Hybrid and Fiesta's fuel economy, and just went "OMG 412 HP THATS EVIL YOU DON'T NEED THAT MUCH DSUHAGISHUGILHDSAUL." Screw 'em.
"Environmentally-speaking, owners of high-powered sport cars do not put much mileage on their playthings...My brother's Porche 911 turbo got driven only about 12,000 miles in the past 6 years."
.
My Mustang is just a toy and after 4 years I have not even reached 10K mi.
Most of the time, I drive the highest gas mileage truck made (BY FORD).
Even that only goes 6K mi. a year.
I USE LESS FUEL PER YEAR THAN YOUR AVERAGE HONDA DRIVER.
Why???
Because I choose to live in a place where I only drive very few miles to work.
Almost everything else, I can walk to.
I am sick of idiots who probably use more gas per year than I do telling me about dependence on oil.
Dave
Those people are being willfully ignorant. They don't see the accomplishment that Ford has made with this car / engine. They also ignore the gas guzzling Goliaths that Toyota and Nissan have been building. Blah blah blah, if it's Asian, it must be good on gas, blah blah blah. Idiots.
I'm all for electric vehicles, but people need to realize that the switch is going to take time and money. We need affordable batteries than can provide high output, low weight, and long life before we can consider them in volume sports car like the Mustang. If the Volt is successful (and I think it will be), we might see this progression in technology and price in the next decade. Until then, we're getting 25MPG out of a 412HP motor. How is that a bad thing?

I currently live two miles from work, and know people who commute 50 miles or more in hybrids and talk about how "green" they are. Unless they get around 400 MPG, I am using less gas to get to work.
I'm sure environmentalists whose only exposure to gearheads is the comments section on TTAC think we're all blithering idiots as well. Most greens I know are impressed when I tell them the Mustang is getting more efficient AND more powerful, including my former boss who is a Prius-driving dunce.
I'm probably the most eco-friendly muscle car owner around here, i've probably driven both the '69 and '88 a total of 10 times the past summer for a grand total of let's say about 400 miles. That beats GM Volts right.
What's really sad is that most "environmentalists" don't even realize how hazardous to the environment the production and disposal of those batteries in their hybrids and ev's are...
And now investment companies are packaging investments for 'rare metals' that are used - which will amplify the environmental problems caused by increased demands on these scarce elements.
But the whacko's don't care... as long as they can park a Prius in front of a fancy restaurant and carry on their phony front of greenage while they disparage Mustangs owners on their silly blogs.
Yeah, I think I made it through about twelve comments before closing the tab. I don't think many eco-***** realize the full extent of their actions. Anyone ever think what kind of impact the production of a single Prius has on the environment? Electric cars also need to get their power from somewhere. Pretending that "green" cars are saving the world is like preaching that you can obtain abstinence by only having sex on Wednesday. Or with farm animals. It's ridiculous.
