2014 Mustang vs. 2015 Mustang
Man, I thought I liked the back end of the new Mustang- but now that I see them side by side, I think the proportions look better on the S197 (the S550 seems a bit "squished" vertically, IMO).
I agree, I'm not sure what it is ... but. when you see a mustang coming at what you in the opposite direction or behind you... or if you spot one anywhere. people know that its a mustang.
the S550 feels like any run of the mill typical car on the road. I'm sure if its dressed up nicely, it will definitely have a different curb appeal, I'm sure.

To be fair he is parked next to an EB or a v6...not that there is a lot of difference with the GT outside of hood vents...
Your 13 looks great and it make that 15 IMHO look lacking....
But.. its is the first run of the S550. Who know what they will look like in 10 years.

Test drove a 15 gt with performance pack. only thing i liked was brakes and interior.
Yep... If I didn't work in marketing, I would wonder how Ford could have missed the mark so badly with the "51st/50th anniversary" Mustang. Unfortunately, its all too clear. This car is what happens when you have executives that start to meddle... You end up with something that doesn't really push any of the limits and is a mish-mash of "safe" options. I guarantee there was a cool evolution of the Mustang that was offered up- only to be sacrificed on the altar of... THIS. Ugh- I'm glad the Mustang continues, but Ford- you really need to fix this pile of hot mess!

My new 2015 GT Premium is LIGHT YEARS ahead in performance (speed + handling) over my 2012 GT Premium and the interior is sooooooo much nicer. As for appearance, I like the 2015 over any previous Mustangs (this is my 7th) I've owned...although my '04 GT was spectacular. Just wait...after a little time we will all appreciate what Ford has accomplished for us to enjoy.

Granted the interior is super nice. And I do like the looks a lot. The 15 is just not the performer we all thought it'd be.

Light Years??? C'mon man. Can't ell you how many people I've met personally that say how the back end is still just as squirrely. Not to mention that the 13/14 MY is FASTER and the Boss 302 has identical HANDLING. So I'm just not sure how you can use the term light years when it's in fact slower and handles just about the same. Granted the interior is super nice. And I do like the looks a lot. The 15 is just not the performer we all thought it'd be.

So the 15 is "light years" ahead by being heavier and slower in a 1/4 mile? Or by sharing the front end of a fusion? I'll give you the interior, but that's it.

Right, I am a big fan of the 2015 and really wanted to get one but in no way is it light years ahead! Once finding out the 13-14 is as fast or faster than the 2015, that was slightly disappointing in terms of being a potential S550 owner. I could entertain the thought of light years ahead as far as interior. The 13-14 is tried and proven and since 2005, it has 8-9 years of refinement, the 13-14 is pinnacle! The cobra style front end, the blacked out lights in the rear, and the 5.0 are plenty satisfying for me for quite a few years! Yes, the 2015 is a step ahead of the 2014, but in no way is it light years ahead!

The subsequent comments are evidence of what happens when the S550 wander into the S197 waters claiming superiority.

I haven't driven the S550, but the S197 simply looks better, from all angles. IRS is technically superior, yes. But at the end of the day, the Mustang was (correct me if I'm wrong) the last live axle car on the market, and had refined that classic formula to the point where it competed with the best in the world, or at least made you look long and hard at the price relative to the performance on tap. I got in when I did because I loved the styling, but also because I've admired Mustangs for a long time, and loved the character that that live axle setup imparted. The S550's price went up and from all the videos and reviews I've read, as glowing as most of them are, I keep getting the feeling that the character's been lost. I don't for one second regret my decision to get in when I did.

Very well articulated. I like the idea of IRS, but I appreciate the level to which Ford refined the LRA setup. These cars are capable of fantastic numbers at the track, but they take skill to drive fast. And that's another thing I appreciate. We drive cars which require you to be a good driver to push them hard. I like driving a manly muscle car, and being able to drive it fast on a road course.

Spoken like a true fanboi. Owning 7 Mustangs, IMO, doesn't make you an expert on what's good or what's better, it's evidence that you're drinking the Koolaid and will simply jump on the latest/greatest. The subsequent comments are evidence of what happens when the S550 wander into the S197 waters claiming superiority.

I don't for one second regret my decision to get in when I did.I have driven the new GT and was personally disappointed when I went over uneven pavement or RR tracks and it jumped and bounced and shifted just like mine does now. The only improvement I noticed was cruising speed stability (70mph+).
From these two pictures, it's easy to see an evolution, and that's the one item I cannot fault the S550 for. The main gauges are more readable, I love the secondary gauges on the dash, I like that they moved the cupholders out of the driver's way. The materials look great, particularly those door pulls. And I like those switches across the bottom of the centre stack beside the starter button. With all the S197's retro touches, why didn't it get some of those, particularly the 2010+ revision. Speaking of which, the 2005 was a quantum leap on interior quality, and reviewers said the same about the 2010. I somehow doubt Ford would skip that part on such a hotly anticipated car.
BUT, I don't like starter buttons, so that I will knock.
