2014 Mustang vs. 2015 Mustang

After driving the 2015 Mustang GT, I didn't have an S-197 sitting around to really detect all the differences between the two cars. However, our friends at Autoweek just so happened to have both on hand to play around with. Here’s what they found.

The S197 is faster in the quarter by a car length, we knew that. Now the big question is if the S550 is faster at the track, and by how much? That would be a great comparo to do at LagunaSeca, or Streets of Willow, or even Gingerman or Grattan here in Michigan. Thanks for posting the video.

The 15 is a winner in the ugly dept.

OnceYouGoBlack 10/28/14 08:05 PM

I bet the 2015 GT500 will be...

oh...wait. sorry.

It looks like a Japanese anime character!! FUUSTANG In the video it looks like the guy in the S197 was letting off when he was getting to far ahead.

In the Continental Tire SportsCar Challenge, the "solid axle" Multimatic Boss 302R regularly beats Aston Martin Vantage's, BMW M3's, Camaro GS.R's, 370Z's, Porsche 997's and WRX-STI's. Just sayin'

I would happily run a 2015 at one of my local tracks back to back with my car for comparison data... Anyone have a connection to source a 2015? I even have wheels/tires that I could run on both cars for an even playing field.

Sooo glad i got my new 2014 before they are all gone! How about those tail lights on the 13' & 14's pretty sweet? They cost about $1000 a piece though. Hope they last me a while lol! The 15' is blah to me honestly i cant buy a sports car that i dont love every angle on. The front end is just not pretty! The new Stang is a "butter face". Everything looks good butter face loool, thank you im here all night!

The '14 looks much better IMO and that is why I bought one.

CiniZter 10/29/14 11:24 AM

wait till aftermarket kicks in for s550 exterior mods.

dmichaels 10/29/14 12:09 PM

I have yet to see one in person, but thus far I also like the styling of the '14 better. And I have no compliants in regards to the handling of mine with the solid rear axle. The new ones might have a little more potential with IRS, so I'm interested to try one out.

I'm another guy who is glad I got a 2014 though, at least for now. I am slightly jealous of the 2015's 6-pot Brembo's though

OnceYouGoBlack 10/29/14 12:25 PM

I went and checked out a loaded '15 black GT at my local stealership last week. The cockpit feels strange but the seats are nice.
The one thing that really made me not like the interior though was the TINY steering wheel! Wtf Ford. My wife's Prius has a bigger wheel...

It really is nicer in person than in pictures but only marginally.

Boom. Drop the mic!

dmichaels 10/29/14 04:44 PM

I think he meant bite... as in strong braking power

The 2015s are showing up at my local Ford dealers so I stopped by last Sunday to take a look. Like most here - I'm glad i have a 2014 - you know the 2014s are Mustangs - the 2015s just aren't as distinctive. All the reviews are saying the interior materials are much better. I haven't had a chance to sit in a 2015 but what I can see from the window - it looks like the doors are still hard plastic except for the inserts and the fake engine turned panels look exactly that - fake - I'll take my aluminum although i would prefer real carbon fiber trim. The console is a much better design through. I really don't like the Fusion front and the back looks like a simpler (cheaper to manufacture) version on the 2014. The larger rear fender flares do look neat. All the pictures I've seen of the 5.0 engine compartment look like they used cheaper materials on the intake covers too compared to the 2014s.

I looked at both the 2014's and the 2015's, choose the 2014, hands down. There was a lot I didnt like about the 2015's, the push button start was the deal breaker. I'm old school, I need to turn a key. Push button starts are for washing machines not muscle cars.
I was lucky to find one of the last White GT/CS convertibles with manual transmission in the Northeast and I love it.

Different old school from mine. They had Push Button starts in 1940's Fords. You had to insert the key and then push the button. Easy to hotwire. We removed it from my Dad's '46 Ford pickup and rewired it to a normal insert/turn key design in the all steel dash. Which really made it no harder to steel, but the button was also steel and due to age the button no longer worked like it should and was occasionally hard to push. Nobody in their right mind would have stolen it anyways. Cops could have picked up that truck out of a line up from 2 miles away.
