The 2013 Mustang is officially here!
I don't know if it was intentional or not, but I'll give Ford the benefit of the doubt and say they are giving 10+ owners the option of changing up the exterior looks of their cars to match the 2013 and 2014.
I'll go out on a limb and guess that the nose, hood, rear valance and taillights from a 2013+2014 will bolt on to a 10+ (with little effort, anyway) in order to shut up the whiners and let them piece together what they think the best-looking combo should be.
This is an option that 2005-2009 owners didn't have at all.

yeah, but we didnt need it
just kidding- I agree with you though, looks like all the metal is unchanged, so this should all be bolt-ons for anyone that wants it.
I still think they should offer the option of new/old cosmetics, there will be those that like last years model better, why not encourage the sale? wouldnt cost them anything to have last years nose or tail available...personally I liked last years V6 front end a lot better than the new V6, and a whole lot more than the new GT...always wondered why they dont 'option' last years look...

"Muscle Car Fight, Ford Takes Bat, Goes Home
After Ford brought out its potentially ZL1-killing 650-horsepower 2013 Shelby GT500, Joel Ewanick, global vice president of GM marketing, decided to drop the gauntlet down at the feet of Ford. "We should take a Camaro, Ford brings a Mustang, we each pick our drivers, and see who has the best time on the Nürburgring," Ewanick said to Scott Burgess of the Detroit News. Jim Farley, who heads Ford's global marketing, wasn't taking the bait despite professed claims to a desire to "take a bat" to Chevrolet. "I wish we could," he said, after hearing about Ewanick's challenge. "Who wouldn't want to do that?" Huh. Sounds to us like maybe Ford's chicken. Hey, Farley — bawk-bawk-bawk-BA-****!"
...no idea where it came from originally but saw it over on SVTP.

Honestly, it sounds like Chevy is just trying to create a showdown which gives them their best chance to win in a head to head compariso before the magazines get hold of these cars. My guess says that Chevy is afraid the magazine comparisons are going to see the GT500 absolutely eating the ZL1's lunch and they are trying to figure out some way to counter that. I think the wise thing here for Ford is to simply let the magazines run these cars in umpteen head to head comparisons on God only knows how many tracks (I wouldn't be at all surprised if Laguna Seca, Gingerman, and VIR will all see GT500 and ZL1 hot laps by professional drivers before the end of the year) In particular, I suspect the ZL1 will have major problems with the GT500 at Laguna Seca and VIR.
As an aside, it would be fantastic if Ford 'accepted' GM's offer, but brought the 2013 Boss 302 Laguna Seca rather than the GT500 offering this explanation "Compare power to weight ratios, the Boss LS is a better comparison to the ZL1 than the GT500 is, we didn't want to be unfair'. Realistically the race would probably take place at a venue like VIR or LS given the winter issues mentioned above. Still, I wouldn't be at all surprised to see the Boss run toe to toe with the ZL1 and, on the right track, possibly even edge the ZL1 out. That would be priceless.

Man, Chevy's surely been talking a lot of sh** since the 2013 Shelby GT500's unveiling! To me, that's indicative of a company scared and upset their much-hyped, yet-still-unreleased "super Camaro" is already obsolete. Way to remind them who's really playing catch-up, Ford!
zero... maybe add later(bumper cover- probably harness too is changed along with the lights, they dont go to production for a while yet)

Its already clear that manycamaro5 types are driven by emotion
over fact, so the next step is several of these morons
setting out to prove GM letters out on the street.
GM needs to shut up before someone gets killed. Keep it on the track. Do it first, then talk about it.

Chevy sucks, especially the crapmaro. Just my .02
I hope the taillight are changeable, I have a 2012 and it's not even 2012 yet and in a few months in going to have an "old" car lol. At least if I change the lights which I think is most noticeable, itll still look like new. A lot of mustangs around here.

atleast not here or that I've seen.....
It would also be a way to benchmark the car prior to release.
Who knows what the chevy is capable of wrt the engine (like with Ford, what are the upper limits of the LSA that will be in the ZL1)
I don't doubt for a second that the rated horsepower is a ceiling for that engine.
It may not have the wiggle room that the GT500s new 5.8 has...
but a race ahead of street sale could allow them to make small little changes.
Now realistically...look at the 5.8.
Ford hasn't been known to simply start at the top

This is a game of cat and mouse...
GM is trying their *** off to save face on this one and they want hard numbers.
Ford isn't bitting.
I see the Chevy saying: 'you're chicken'
I see Ford sayign" "Shut the **** up, you'll see how fast it is when it comes out just like everyone else"
ZL1 stats are released, and no one is giving it the time of day. GT500 this and GT500 that....

Well, when you first go the the website it shows a GT/CS with hood stripes, rocker stripes and a 5.0 badge but no fog lights and a tri-bar pony emblem in the grill. When you go to the photo gallery it shows a GT/CS with no stripes, no 5.0 badge, fog lights and a running horse emblem in the center of the grill. And BBP wheels. So either those are all options or they are just pre-production models and they haven't finalized what the GT/CS will look like yet.

I'm not sure if the plain (no striped) gt will indeed be a cs or not but i can assure you that I will have whatever package that is in my garage come next summer. best looking of what I've seen so far for the 2013's IMO (except the 500 of course)
