I think what you're seeing Hollywood, is what was discussed on page 31. The fact that the tail lights are similar to the 69's, where they are flat but the center panel is concave, thus the inboard edge of the tail light sticks out compared to the inward curvature of the center panel.
The reason they put the glare in that spot right over the top of the backup light is because they don't want to reveal just how much the bezel does stick out. It is very similar to the 69 tail light!! It protrudes alot!

SO, I have the tailight pic on my desk top and someone, who is not following these threads, walks through and says " WOW nice mustang what year is that?"
So to me it is clear that the design is on mark if someone who is not following the info can reconise the car from that taillight the has stirred up so much debate.

Mine too, but that's beside the point.
It's not so much about the fact that it was recognized as a Mustang as it is someone who hasn't been constantly following the design unfold liked it immediately.
