The Shifter does not appear in any of the other previews so I think that is THE shifter not a Bullit. I think it looks great. Although I would take the Aluminium **** off and put a Cue ball **** there Or a T- Handle.

Personally, I'd love an extra gear for highway driving. I always felt the 5th gear on the current manual model just didn't do once you got up around 75 - 80. It would be nice to drop the RPMs down one more time. Would drive MPGs down on highway too.

Yes... the shift **** in the current PREMIER package is solid aluminum. Gets very cold and very hot... but I love it.

Just when you thought the teaser pics couldn't get any less exciting. I can hardly wait until next week when we get to see a closeup of the door handle.

And just for the record, I don't know why every one is getting all up tight about the 5 speed. We've known all along that 2010 would be a carryover for power train.

I think it's just frustrating when our choices for 2010 are a Mustang with around 300 hp & 5 spd. or Camaro with 425 hp and 6 spd. Let me see, I'm I going to wait for 2011 for Ford to catch up?

I have it and it's aluminum...no question about it. And much nicer than the one in this latest 2010 teaser pic, IMHO; more in keeping with a modern car.

And a lot of people probably feel the same way. Chevy certainly hopes they will.

The problem will be whether or not they can afford it. But then, truthfully, with the economy the way it is, buyers may not be purchasing either one...certainly not in the numbers that would make these cars profitable for their makers, anyway. The Camaro will do well in the beginning as the wealthy "gotta have it now" crowd (who crawled out of the woodwork when the GT500 arrived, too) plunk down their money to be one of the first to own one.

But I think there will be a sharp falloff after that. In another year, you'll probably be able to walk into a Chevy dealer and pick one up for a song.

Hey Adam, we don't know what the power output is gonna be. Lets just wait the month or so, and see for sure. You know they are gonna bump the power up a bit. They did it with the F150 for 2009 and it was the same motor. This probably will be the same thing. Not 422/400 like the Camaro, but not 300 that is available currently.

I agree, but how much did the F150 increase? 25 horsepower? I think people would get the mustang if it had 340-350 horsepower for 2010. (Meaning the guys who are going to wait for the 5.0.)

Well, if the Bullitt was 315, I know Ford can change a few things and get the car to 330 hp. Thats not a bad increase for a carryover powertrain (but not enough for some people).

Seriously... it's a gear.. the only way a 6th gear would be relevant would be in a high rear gear.. i have a 4.25:1 final in my focus and i can tell u this at a cruising speed of 75-80 i'm hittin over 3k even in 6th granted in 5th i'm over 4g's but thats the only time i'm ever that high.. even when i'm runnin some fart cannon rice burner on the streets i NEVER get up to 6th hell i don't even pass 4th... fuel economy is great but how much can you save adding 1 more gear? 5%? not much of a difference to me when you're only getting 15-17mpg's in the city anyways... if you're already jumpng off over a gear that would probably add another $1000 to the MSRP then you are NOT a true mustang enthusiest... if i could afford it i would buy one 5 or 6 speed it's still an icon and still one bad *** car...

Here is the caption for the pic.

Attention to detail means everything to the team members who designed, engineered and built the 2010 Mustang. Take the manual transmission shift **** of the Premier Package, for example
“Driving enthusiasts prefer a round shift ball,” said Chief Designer Douglas Gaffka. “We listened to our customers and executed their wishes in a world-class manner for improved driving dynamics.” This new round manual shift **** will be available on all 2010 Mustangs, or if customers prefer, they can choose a leather-wrapped shift ****.
The shifter panel on the center console mirrors the world-class fit and finish found throughout the 2010 Mustang interior.
“The same attention to detail and precise engineering on the instrument panel was also applied to the shift boot and chrome trim ring,” said Design Manager Gary Morales. “First, we went through several material choices for the new boot design until we achieved a higher-quality appearance.”
“Then we precisely mounted the boot and chrome ring sublflush to the console, matching the air registers on the instrument panel,” adds Senior Designer Robert Gelardi. “This clean, consistent design means you’ll know everything was precisely crafted for the 2010 Mustang. And, of course, honest American muscle meant the Premier shift **** had to be real aluminum.
“Otherwise it wasn’t going in our new Mustang.”

What did they do to the F150 motor exactly? I assume we could expect the same to be carried over to the Mustang.

its kinda like 1996 again. The mustang v6 only had 150hp and the camaro V6 had 200hp while the Gt mustang only had 215hp. Then you had the 285hp Z28. But the mustang survived then just as it will now.

Come to think about it the GT was near 75% the power of the Z28 and now 75% of 422 hp is 316hp. so if we get the bullitt engine it will be just like the good old days.... haha

The six speed would likely have similar ratios as the Shelby and the Viper. That means less off the line punch in first and the same ratio in sixth as compared to the current 5 speed. So the truth is you would just have to shift one extra time between first and sixth. I'm already in fifth by 45, and getting 26.5 mpg on a long trip in the Bullitt. Six speeds wouldn't be worth it unless they put in a super OD so that you could turn 1200 RPM at 70. Probably wouldn't save much gas and the extra weight would not make it worth the effort. Those ricer cars with hi rpm peaky engines and pitifully narrow powerbands need a 6 speed.

I'm leaning back to the Mustang again. If GM buys Chrysler as rumored, it's all over for the Camaro...
