I don't agree with much you say but this sentiment is something i've been wanting to say for a longgggg timeeee. I browse instagram a lot and a lot of the pics i see are car related. MOST of the more "popular" people on instagram are some modded v6's...now i don't have anything negative to say about people with v6's but i feel like they go ABOVE and beyond whats needed to get noticed...for their short commings. they put 10 grand into their car when they could have had a GT.

i see too many cars put some graphics on their car with some bags and people go ape **** over them. Now i don't care about instagram fame at all. I get enough thumbs up and people chatting me up in real life to know that i've made my car into something that really turns heads.

And what if people don't want a GT? That logic assumes that everyone has the same wants/goals/purposes for their car as you do for your car.

I see nothing wrong with a home built GT500 as long as you are honest when you go to sell or trade it.

My personal story comes from the fact that I own a V6 because of the price point when I bought it. I was able to upgrade it slightly with the PP and keep it within a price range I was comfortable with. I was buying a house and getting married all around that same time and it made more sense to spread my money around. I personally have no goals to make my car into a GT or imitate one because I don't have one and I'm fine with that *for now . I don't do mods or projects because I'm trying to get 'closer' to a GT, they're just fun projects that allow me to learn more about my car and make it my own and have become a hobby.

GT owners like to put mods on their cars, to include superchargers and tons of performance upgrades. Why does noone say anything about them getting close to a GT500? 'Why didn't they just get one of those then?' Doesn't seem to make much sense to me.

I think everyone should do what they want with their cars but be able to be honest with themselves and others about what it truly is. Just enjoy your own ride and respect the rides that other people sport because we all love our cars here. It's a community and a passion, regardless of what model/engine you have. Enjoy the heritage of these awesome cars.

Don't worry you guys, you can all make fun of me when I switch out my 3.73s to 3.31s and have AED write me a "slow tune" so I can actually enjoy revving out my car where I live, as the Performance Tune and 3.73s just make it unenjoyably fast for my area. But I need that V8 noise. I drove a few different cars today, and didn't fall in love. The closest was the Cayman S, but still...I didn't feel compelled to trade my factory ordered Mustang for it.

Me either, as long as you don't try to pass it off as the real thing. Hell, I'd like to build one with the GT500 guts and strip it down to look like a regular v-6 so you could just put the hammer down and smack the **** out of SS Camaros and the like.

There's part of the problem. Many clone owners do try to pass stuff off as the real deal. Going back 30 yrs I knew a guy that owned a 1967 Mustang fastback that had a 390. He also bought a junked 1967 GT500 with no drivetrain. He then switched all the vin id numbers and Shelby American id tag and Shelby unique parts to his 390 car. He showed the car for years as a GT500. The vin was even registered in the Shelby registry and eventually sold to a unsuspecting fellow as a genuine GT500. Someone cloning a modern GT500 could do the same thing. Even a clone with a salvage title vin GT500 would be worth more than a clone with a regular Mustang vin. Many clone cars are built using salvage car parts....makes it pretty easy to get a salvage title. This is a serious matter. I always suggest to anyone buying any special edition or rarely optioned car to do their homework. Avoid salvage title cars and if anything in the cars history looks funny....walk away.

I think its smart to tweak your car to your own taste! 3.73 gears probably have its place but, maybe not for you!

I really don't think you'd be disappointed with 3.31's

I know that 2.75 paired with a Automatic transmission didn't put a smile on my face.

3.31 paired with a manual trans on a V6 did and still does.

3.31 on a GT manual trans will definitely lol. maybe then you'll be able to enjoy 1st gear!

I always wonder why manufacturers don't do this anymore - you used to be able to order whatever engine you wanted, even in the base model. Since 2013, the V6 look identical to the GT though, so it wouldn't be *much* of a sleeper, but say a 2012 V6 with 2012 GT500 drivetrain, brakes, suspension and wheels, would be an awesome sleeper. Stock base interior, plastic steering wheel and all.

Great pictures. It looks like there were some real gems out there. I recently took a family trip to Poland for the weekend. We stayed in an apartment in the Jewish district. I was a great time. I took some cool pictures. Here's my favorite one.
