Rear Speakers...
There are a ton of D3 threads out there already, so I won't start a new one for this question.
My rear speakers sound like crap compared to the front speakers. All four are Infinity Kappa 6x8s, with the stock front door subs. The fronts sound great: lots of good midrange and highs, which complement the subs very nicely. Yesterday, just for grins I moved the fader all the way to the rear, and the speakers back there sound very muddy and sloppy. No highs whatsoever. They are hooked up properly, as is the head unit using the great threads here as guides.
My question: is there something about the AVIC-D3 that favors the front speakers? I noticed in the "Position" settings, there are only options for left front, center front, and right front, but no rear preference like with other Pioneer stereos. Is this a Mustang thing where the stock wiring does something funky?
Thanks,

Is this a good deal? I saw it on Crutchfield.com.

I'm confused about a couple things. It's not mentioned in nonstopred's install, but I've seen references in this thread and other installs about having to wire the VSS and illumination separately. The Ford harness is supposed to have these connections, so why are people doing this? Is the Metra harness wired wrong, or do the connections just not work, or what?
Here's a Shaker connection diagram somebody else posted. Looks like pins 3, 4 and 14 have what we want, so I don't understand.

As far as the VSS wire. This is the first I've heard about there even being a VSS conection in the factory harness. I've read a fair amount before and during my install and never heard it mentioned. Tapping into the PCM VSS wire isn't that bad though. I removed the upper radiator hose to get a better angle at the PCM wire bundle.
Good luck
Here's a post where I show how I connected my VSS and ILL and reverse wires.

Yeah, everything i read says that it isn't really necessary unless you drive through areas that can cause satellite signal loss for short periods of time. I only connected it cause the vehicle dynamics wouldn't work without it. I know they are useless but it bugs me when something isn't working right.
+1.
nope, got very fast shipping as well...dont order the install kit from them, they gave me the wiring for the stock radio (non shaker) and didnt have the dash kit. They said they wouldnt include that anyway because that and the wiring for the shaker is upgraded install parts, not just the "basic ones" they charge for. Even so, it was 14 bux or something, NBD. Nothing wrong with the AVIC and it was a great deal, that is much cheaper than anywhere else..even ebay
yeh as far as the ipod goes...if you dont want to buy a new one, I suggest just buying some old refurb 20 gig to shove in the glove box and attach to the cable and forget about. I personally havent had to use a cd since I got the ipod attached.
FYI. Crutchfield has an AVIC D3 Package right now. You get the AVIC D3, Ipod adapter and Bluetooth adapter and free XM receiver (after rebate) all for only $799.00 !! I know what I want for my birthday !!
That's a fantastic deal. I can't recommend this unit enough, if you use all of the accessories.
