BUMP for Jeff.......... are you working on the install, or what gives Jeffrey???

Yeah, work sometimes controls even the biggest car nut here. The unit WILL be installed by the weekend. It has to be bu Sunday as I have a Toys4Tots run and everyone in my club wants to see how it looks in the Stang. Tom, I may have missed it, or I'm just burned out from work, but did you post how to actually wire up the back-up camera using the switch? I'm not sure. Thanks dude.

The switch as 2 leads: connect one of them to a 12v switched source. Connect the other lead to the reverse input wire from the D3 and also the power lead for the camera. Mount switch..... enjoy.

Well, after a rainout of a weekend, I FINALLY got around to installing the D3 and its done (at least 90% of it). This thing is ******* SWEET!!! An amazing headunit!! The sound quality is night and day over stock, the factory speakers sound MUCH better now, the navigation system works like a charm (and I didn't even tap into the VSS wire on the car. Left it go for now). Even the bypass works as advertised! No more parking break engadged to work the DVD/Nav. I HIGHLY recommend this unit to ANYONE who wants a navigation system in thier car.

Now, if your all wondering why I listed 90%, is because I couldn't get the backup camera installed the way TOM281 has it done. Hey Tom, any chance you can PM me detailed directions/ or a diagram on how you wired up the camera with the switch? The way I did it, I only had it working using AV-1 on the screen. I hit the camera button on the screen, turned it on, but the whole "polarity/battery" thing made no sense to me. Any help how to do this with all the wires (including the yellow RCA wire from the camera and where it goes) will be much appreciated. I love this thing and driving now is even more fun now. Oh, the iPOD control, SICK!!!

Jeff, I am in Dallas currently- when I get back home I'll try to write something up.

Yes, I did thank you. I wound up mounting the antenna under the dash, between the two center A/C vents. Perfect spot to hid it, and the wire loom is ziptied behind the metal brace behind the radio. Only drove it a few miles on Sunday but the nav is tracking NICELY even without the VSS attached.

The VSS will not only help the navigation, but allow you to access the Vehicle Performance Data or whatever it's called.....there's a separate screen for it.

Question... how does the VSS track G-forces? side eccelleration? acceleration? angle velocity? ect... isnt it just tracking speed?

I received just about everything I need for the upgrade: the Z2, Sirius, backup camera, bluetooth, ... now Santa has to wrap it all up and put under the tree!! Say, does anyone have a photo of the rear camera "switch", showing where you installed it, ... and exactly which switch you purchased? TIA

Hey Allen, I sent a PM to Tom281 about this on Monday. Once he gets back into town, he plans on sending me a diagram on how he wired the camera up with the switch. Maybe instead of PM'ing me, he can just post the diagram. That camera wiring harness with the yellow RCA jack was just driving me crazy! Would only work in AV-1 mode and not when I hit the rear camera button on the screen.

Oh, the switch, is just a $3 one from radio shack. I bought the one with a threaded ring on the bottom, so when I drill the hole for it, you just take the plastic nut and tighen it up! Don't know where I may mount the switch. I want it somewhere out of the way.

Jeff-

Does your camera have 2 regular wire leads (red, and black) and a Yellow RCA-style jack? If so.. :

Black wire: ground
Red wire: tie this and the reverse wire on the D3 to one side of your switch. The other side of the switch, tie into the ignition (red wire, I think) wire of the D3.
Yellow RCA jack: plug into the REAR CAMERA RCA-style jack on the D3.

This way, when the switch is off, the camera is not powered up and the reverse input on the D3 is not activated. When the switch is on, the camera is powered and the reverse input is activated.

You must get into the menu setting on the D3 and change the REAR VIEW CAMERA POLARITY to Positive (+). If I recall correctly, this is all you need to do.

As far as the switch location itself, of course the switch is optional and not needed depending on your preference but if you decide to install one, here is where mine is:

THanks a million Tom!! As always a HUGE help for us installing the D3. And yep, I have the exact camera you got, the Boyo chrome plated one. Same wires and all. Now that I have the proper directions, I can start on it maybe next weekend (got an open house Sunday for BADMC to go to).

I owed you for getting me the build date of my car, remember that last year? Although I still haven't done anything with it.

Get your D3 finished, you'll love it. I drove my car today and flipped the camera on during a 2nd gear burnout. LOL, too much fun.

Tom. getting you the build date was nothing. Glad to help. Next weekend is more realistic, since we will be closing early Saturday and won't re-open till Dec 26, so I will have the time to finish it.

My D3 is on its way from Crutchfield. I'm hoping it eliminates the bluetooth auto-connect issues I had with my Pioneer 9800BT head unit.

Anyone want to trade my iPod cable for... anything? I have no use for it.
