I too have taken the Avic D3 plunge. It Should be here by Monday or Tuesday of next week. What do you guys think of this backup camera?
Do you think it wil fit? Do you think since the keyhole is recessed in the
fake gas cap emblem it might cutoff part of the viewing area?

SWEET! Did you scope out the harness and such? It looks relatively easy. I already got the voltage regulator, and will get the crimp connectors tomorrow. BTW Jarrod, while your club is having their Toy Drive this Saturday, my club is joining up with a local antique club next Sunday. This Sunday for a few hours I will be out shopping with a fellow member for a few gifts. I'll give you a call when I get back. Are you 1 hour or 2 hours behind Eastern time? Gonna be a fun weekend!

Did you already connect your wiring harness?

Hey Tom, I may do that mod, I'm still not sure. Since I don't drive the car a whole lot, its not that important to me. I do have a question for you, thought? Which connectors did you use? I've seen the blue colored crimp butt connectors, and I have also seen some use the crimp caps as well. Just want to get your opinion before I start this. Oh and one more thing? I'm assuming you did the voltage regulator deal as well? If you did, how long of wire did you use for the regulator to the wiring harnesses, and did you take any pictures of the regulator all wired up? Thanks for the help dude!
The video mod is simple, really simple...... relocate one wire in the harness and then ground it...... done. I used blue butt connectors for 16 gauge wire because that's what I typically use and had laying around the house lol. Either way, butts or crimp caps will be fine- just make sure you crimp them properly. I know you said your pops has the crimpers so I'm sure you'll be fine.
I did the voltage regulator when my car's system was stock- however that was 2 years ago. There is a diagram in TacoBill's link- basically if I remember right, it is a 3 pin regulator- one pin is power in (from the car), another is power out (to the radio) and the last is ground. Very, very easy except you won't be able to use connectors on the regulator, you'll need to solder it. Or if you prefer, get one from Radio Shaft and have them solder leads onto it so you can just use butts or caps.
You've done enough research, you'll be fine. Just remember to double check all connections, and any unused wires should be capped off so they don't touch ground or other wires.
