clamps

The issue with mine were that the stingers are bigger at the clamp end and it takes so much more force to get them to seal around the connection side. I think the horse shoe clamps have more clamping force to do that. The stock mufflers didn't take near the force to seal............

I got them at Ninosport. I knew they were reputable and I had a gift certificate. Also used the 5% off code.

Installed them tonight. I think I need to mess with the midpipe bolt to get the driver side to go in further. It's about a 1/4 to 1/2 " off. I think I got the clamps tight enough. The factory ones weren't all that tight. It was so cold while I was installing these things I had a lot of trouble getting the OEM off. I'm glad I had a set of ratcheting boxed end. It would be nearly impossible, otherwise. Also they must have revised the driver side front bracket. It has 3 bolts.

Man they sound great. I haven't been driving much yet though. The idle is great and they sound amazing at 3K and up.

My FRPP/Borla Stingers have been on my car for a little more than a week and I absolutely love the sound from start up, idle, to city and Highway driving. It was the right decision, for me.

They really aren't as loud as people makes them out to be. The only time they are close to bothersome is the 1700-1900 RPM but only when gassing it. Like taking a hill in fifth at a little more throttle than what you would cruise at.

This drone seems to be more closely tied to throttle position than RPM.

They get a thumbs up from me. They actually could be meaner at WOT. Maybe it's because I still only have about 100 miles on them but wide open I can't tell a lot of difference from the inside.

Yeah, they're far from obnoxious. And sure, they could be meaner, but then you might really grow weary of them after a short while.

IMO, they're just about perfect: a low and throaty growl without being tiresome.

And the pipes LOOK great!

On any other car the 4" tips might look rediculous but they fit well on this car.

Hello guys. My first post here.
I have got Borla Stingers installed on my Mustang as well and I am really happy of their sound. I am also trying to fight a bit with drone. My question is any one from you used SuperChips Flashpaq tuning program and did that changed anything to the drone problem? Do the Cold Air Kit change something in drone as well.
I should get those two soon.

Just one thing I am from Europe - country Poland and American cars are very seldom here and very expensive and the parts as well. My set of brand new stingers cost me for example 980$ I guess no one in US paid that money for Stingers LOL. And my mustang cost twice what you pay in America
Any way you should see people faces here in Poland when I am driving my Mustang with Borla Stingers – you can not compare that with any of daily driving European cars. The European cars are sounds like hair dryers

Oh yes that is big fun specially that every one from a child to a old man is looking on you wherever you are. When you stopped on the petrol station people are going out to make photos, when you stopped on supermarket a lot of children running making photos with a car. When you start the engine people are going crazy like on a rock festival and the best faces you can see on teenagers which has their tuned Golfs, Audies or BMW's – those faces are the best
One thing is bad that I am very loud and easy target for police as nothing on a road sounds like my Mustang LOL.

Any way coming back to subject of droning I am now putting some dynomats in a trunk floor and special acoustic pads on the back of the seats in a trunk and on the top of a trunk – there were are the speakers. That obviously should calm down the drone but will not remove it.
Without that I am not able to listen the CB radio which inform me were are the police

I am very interesting what the SuperChip will change when I will set up the program for performance – that should change the flow through the exhaust system and maybe reduce or move on higher/lower rpm the resonance peak.

Did anyone try to catch two pipes together with some claps with rubber pads – somewhere in a middle where the pipes are very close – that should reduce the resonance as well.

BTW it looks like whole system is resonating not only the Stingers.

Are you sure you have them installed correct? How far from the "nub" is the muffler pipe notch?

I am pretty sure they are installed right like on the bottom picture. I also put a special paste inside which seal the connection so there is no air leak at all.

Looks right to me. I guess it just depends on individual perception. I can listen to podcasts fine.

New questions

Great thread. I have been thinking about GTA's but after reading this I am going with the Stingers but I have a few questions. What is the tip diameter of Borla vs FRPP (FRPP site indicates that it is 3.5"-I thought they were 4")?
I was going to do axel-backs but what is the sound difference or other advantage to cat-back?

The Borlas are 4" and would look pretty rediculous if it wasn't for the design of the rear bumper cover. I think the 3.5" may be internal diameter or something excluding the rolled end of the tip.

I think on these cars catbacks include just the over axel pipe and don't do much since the most difference is made with the H pipe.

Man you guys are making me miss the Stingers. I had Stingers but swapped them out for GTAs. I don't miss the drone but do miss that sweet sound at startup. Sigh.

Yep, had the Borla's and then got the GTA's. Now back to Borla's and I'm not changing again. This is the perfect muffler for the GT imo~

If I hadn't gone with longtubes, I'd still have my stingers, they were awesome

Once the longtubes went in the drone was over the top for me. And it wasn't for lack of getting used to them, I ran that way for over a year before switching to GTA's.

Hands down the Stingers are the best sounding, if you can withstand the drone... there's nothing better sounding that I've heard.
