For those of us who are not mechanical engineers, would that be a yes or no on 600-700 RWHP? I'm in since I'll probably never have over 500.

I'm pretty sure no Whipple makes more than 5,000ft/lbs of torque, so I think it will be fine for 500hp.

ATTN: Forum Members
We will be closing this "Group Buy" this coming Friday 2-8-05 with a total of 15 or more shafts. This is so we don't make members wait longer than they should have to. If you are interested please email david@shaftmasters.com and let us know if you want the "Adapter Plate" or "Pinion Flange" version. Also let us know which forum you are from and your forum "username"

Thanks, David

O.K. - one more quick question (as a non-techie) what's the difference of 'adapter plate' and 'replacement pinion flange' ?!

Unless you're planning on doing a ratio change in the near future we would recommend the adapter version. In our opinion to replace the pinion flange properly you need to gut the housing. There is a crush sleeve between the pinion bearings that along with the amount of torque on the pinion nut sets the amount of preload on the pinion bearings. It is sometimes difficult to draw the new pinion flange onto the pinion shaft without crushing the sleeve further thus placing too much preload on these bearings causing them to wear out prematurely. When doing a ratio change you have to gut the housing which would be the ideal time to change the pinion flange along with a new crush sleeve. Despite legend, when installed properly the adapter works fine. We have many satisfied customers to prove it. Also urban legend, we have never had to suggest to any of our lowered customers to purchase an adjustable upper control arm to adjust pinion angle in order to overcome a vibration problem! We developed our 3.5 inch shaft to provide our customers that are lowered with more clearance. There are reports of lowered stang owners having their 4 inch diameter shafts rubbing on a hump in the tunnel. Although these shafts come with installation instructions to prevent this, our 3.5 inch shaft doesn't require this extra effort along with the added benefit of it handling more torque.

Thanks, David

Deadline is Midnight tonight

Midnight tonight is the deadline to get in on the group buy. We will not be offering another one anytime in the near future. After this month Shaftmasters will be at the start of our busy season. At that time we will be working OT nearly everyday to keep up with the work load. Our busy season normally runs from March thru October.

There's a season for drive shafts? What causes the increased demand for drive shafts?

Here is a PDF from NASA, a bit old 1984, on "Design of Power-Transmitting Shafts" if anyone is interested.

Another PDF from University of Tennesse at Martin on Shaft Analysis

Alot of our business is from gravel haulers, cement companies, constructions companies etc. that don't operate much in the winter months. We also do alot of custom shafts for classic and race cars that tend to also sit in the winter months. We normally see about a 25 % increase in business once March hits.

Group Buy is now closed. We have 15 orders, 5 of which have been paid for and shipped. All components for the remaining 10 shafts are currently being prepped for assembly. Members who are on the list should call 1-866-912-2004 to provide payment and shipping information. We expect to have your info by the close of business on Tuesday at the latest. If for some reason you cannot complete your purchase please notify us immediately. Any members who did not get in on the Group Buy and would like to purchase a shaft at the reduced price should contact us to be put on a “contingency list”. This list will be on a first come-first serve basis and will be limited to the amount of shafts that original Group Buy members decline to purchase.
