Time for some decisions
#1 Just rolled over 33K on my 2013 GT (AT, Equipment group 300, etc) and I'm starting to think about an extended warranty. Ford has sent me a couple of reminders and if I go that way I would go with the Ford option. I don't want the hassle of a 3rd party warranty plan. I plan on keeping it until one of us doesn't get up in the morning. The question: should I get it or should I "go commando"? I'm pretty light on the machinery (just had the original brakes replaced on my 98 F-150 after 150K and 16 years) but...you know.
#2 Tires. I'll probably be able to make the OEM tires last until it starts raining (hopefully here in CA) about November. I don't need gumball track tires. Just probably some all season with good grip and quiet. It would help it they were available at Costco or Big O, or maybe Les Schwab. I live in the sticks and these are my best options unless I go with the doper who's using his wheel and tire shop to launder the proceeds from his "other" pastime.

If you are good at budgeting and can have money and not spend it... Skip the warranty. I have worked in the automotive business for more than 10 years. And the reason there are so many warranty companies out there? Because they win 9 out of 10 times. Take the money you would spend on the warranty. Keep it in the bank and draw interest on it. Most likely to wind up with more money when all is said and done than if you dropped it on the warranty. And if something happens with the car. You have the cash to pay for it.

I agree with 14glassback 100%. To take it one step further, my wife and I always keep money in in a separate saving acct for any issues/emergencies that may come up with house, car or health.

i had an extended warranty on my earlier stang, two times i went for repair and had tough time getting it done on warranty. so this time i decided as 14glassback said.... no warranty.. keep the money aside for emergency if it is daily driver.. if not do the repairs when u can get to it...

Of the five new vehicles that my ex-wife and I have had, I never needed an extended warranty on any of them. My Mustang is still too new to see if I think an extended warranty will be needed but if I start having a lot of problems with it, I will be getting rid of it before an extended warranty is needed.

Sounds good, guys (people/y'all) Will go ahead and work without a net. The last time I had an extended warranty it was for a 1984 Mazda 626 and it went painlessly. But it WAS 30 years ago. I've had a number of cars since and would never have needed it on any of them.
Now, tires?

The issues in the past with the extended warranty is getting them honor it....I would take it in and then there would be this bill cause they want to make money at the service. I would have to argue to no end each time that it is covered under warranty and they would come up with well we used OEM part and not Ford parts...I would dig in.....so now....No extended warranty. I agree with 14Glassback.....
