Off Road H Pipe

I'm a little late reading this thread... but if anyone is interested, I'd sell my stock h-pipe (that I gutted the cats out of) to someone for cheap... just PM me. I will be installing the Bassani off-road x-pipe any day now, so will have no need for my off-road h-pipe. This would be good for someone who wants to appear like they have cats, since from under the car you can see the cats. They have just been completely hollowed out. I'm sure that having larger diameter pipe there (where the cats were) creates a bit of backpressure and make the exhaust note different than if the cats were cut out and 2.5" diameter pipe was welded in their place. But, you could easily take it to an exhaust shop, or a welder, and have them do that for next to nothing. This h-pipe (with my Magnaflows) has a menacing growl. Hard to explain in words. I'll get a sound clip tonight, if someone can host it for me tomorrow, let me know.

Are you keeping your car now???
Well, I don't want to say anything yet, as not to jinx myself... but my wife just got her unemployment checks and we also got 2 nice deposits into our bank account from FEMA... so, there is a chance that I can work things out and keep my car, as well as build the house. I'm looking into getting a second job possibly building fences (since half of the fences around here are down from the hurricane)... at least until my current job picks back up. But, even if I sell her, I want to put the Bassani x-pipe on and the SLP Loudmouth exhaust (whenever it finally gets here). These are two things I ordered a while back before Katrina and I want to enjoy them on the car before I do have to give it up. I also don't feel comfortable selling the car with gutted cats on it. There are no emissions laws around here, or anything like that. But, I'd rather sell the car with a 'real' aftermarket mid-pipe than one I created basically. The stock one I have now with the gutted cats would work fine for someone who possibly has their stock h-pipe and can switch back to it for emissions or if they sell their car.

Sound Clip
That is what I want my car to sound like. Can't wait to hear your sound clips.
P.S. That's great news about keeping your car!

It does sound a little like that. Not the same though, because the car in the JBA clip obviously has some long tube headers on it. I have stock headers. I'm sure if you added some JBA headers to it, it would sound a lot like that.
I'll get a sound clip tonight and hopefully somebody will host it for me tomorrow.

Thanks. Now just keep your fingers crossed.
That link doesn't work for me, Ian.
Hey, I don't mean to knock it before I hear it, but I was reading my new MM&FF magazine last night and they had another article on sound engineering, specifically applied to Mustang exhausts. They went over H pipes, X pipes, cats, no cats, straight through mufflers, baffled mufflers, etc. and explained what and why they make the sound that they do. One thing that stuck out in the article (after reading your post about the gutted cats) is they said 'If you gutted the cats, for god sakes, replace the empty cans with straight pipes. It sounds like sh--.'
So I'm pretty curious to hear this setup...

I sent Tony (SixtySix) the file via e-mail, so hopefully he'll host it for me and put the link here.
As far as the sound, it's definitely different. I'm guessing having hollow "cans" there creates a bit of backpressure, making it sound really rough. I personally like the sound. I could definitely live with it, although I personally prefer the sound of an x-pipe to an h-pipe. But, if anyone wants to buy my h-pipe and cut off the cats and weld some straight pipe there, that would be a cheap alternative to an aftermarket off-road h-pipe. And it would sound the same.

Thanks Tony for hosting the video. Here it is...

I hope to have it next Friday but is just depends on when it ships.
Also in November brenspeed.com will have a sound clip section with various X pipe and muffler combo's and H pipe combos. Also we will be testing new brake kits for improved stopping power and there will be a group purchase on it. Another addition is the new JLT series 2 intake for those of you who like JLT. It will be sold with our custom tunes on brenspeed.com. Lastly I have a big shipment of Hurst shifters and they are awsome. I started pricing at only $189 shipped!

Yes I finially have an update. My rep has left for SEMA but I have been told while he is gone the H pipe is shipping from one facility to the main office on Monday. That means Tuesday or Wednesday they ship it to me. I have called him every day for the last 3 weeks so I bet they will be happy to have it in my hands.

So now you get the Hurst!!!!
I have a tracking number for the proto-type and it will be here Monday. I will install it next week, make sound files, and also do further testing on it. If it fits well which it should I will order production qty's which will take less than 4 weeks to get so I am told.
