Everyone feels different about the type of transmission. I like having the best of both worlds. My GT/CS is a 5 speed and my T/A is an auto. When I go to Atlanta with it's constant traffic jams I like taking the T/A, or my left leg would look like the Hulk if I took the Mustang.
With new automatics it is now a moot point as far as performance is concerned, not like in the 90s.

After a couple days with my 5.0 I have to say I can't see a ls1 touching this thing. My cousins ss +bolt ons feels strong but just not the same. Fastest thing i drove besides my friend's explorer 4.6 + vortech in a 98 body.

I've had both. An 01 SS was my ls1 car. Car went 11.80s @ 120 mph with a simple 125 Nos dry kit and drag radials and 13.50@ 106 showroom stock. The cars were very strong and the best bang for your buck for over a decade. It took Ford 13 years to catch them in the base pony cars. But no, a stock LS1 will not beat a stock 5.0 nor should it. We had a decade to catch them. Just like a 2011-13 mustang is not going to beat the 2025 Camaro.
