FWIW I would recommend the GT. And welcome! The reasoning behind it is simple, trust me when I say you don't want your dream car to also be your daily driver. Things are going to happen to it that will make you tear up. Enjoy your GT with the creature comforts now and buy a gently used Shelby as a second vehicle in a few years when the prices come down just like the SVT Cobras have

Hope this helps, good luck hunting!

I turned down a 2008 GT500 New for X-Plan last summer. i think it was around $41,000 last summer. Just couldnt make myself spend the money and wasnt sure I wanted to live with the consatnt attention.

I just waited and ordered a 2011 GT BASE with minimal options. Yes its less car but its also $13,000 Cheaper. I got $1250 in Rebates (Counting Brochure Rebate) and you can order them for $300 under Invoice if you shop around.

If you want a Shelby my friend has a loaded 09 white with blue stripes for $39k. It has about 1,000 miles on it.

Honestly as good as the 11' GT is, it's just a GT. The GT500 is a special car.

Good luck on this one; I'm having the same debate myself.

Wow. Definitely go with an 08/09 GT500 at a good price. I just saw the Mustang ad during 24, and although its a cool add, that 10/11 rear end... ugh.
I can't imagine that drawing anyone with those conflicting twink lines fighting themselves. What a miscarriage of design. Rather than pulling people to our beloved flagship muscle car, I'm sure most are just tolerating that strange *** end.

Maybe not the repeat of the 60's, but it will hold its price better than a Mustang GT!
Its a SE, with 500hp and Shelby's name on it. Still a looker at the local car shows!

5 years from now, you'll be able to purchase a used 2011 Mustang GT for under $20k.
Just wait and see what happens when the next gen Mustang appears!

I've had the same thoughts going on. I'm looking to upgrade from my Cobra in a couple years. I've been in love with the Shelby since the first peak that was in Motor Trend around 4 or 5 years ago. The 11 5.0 is an amazing car, but I'd rather have the Shelby even if it isn't the newest technology.

Of course, I may be able to squeeze into an 10 or 11 Shelby at a great price if something works out right.

My hope is that the 2014 crushes the prices of '11 GT500s, too.
550hp + aluminum block + glass roof option =

i agree but unfortunately if trends continue the average equipped gt coupe will be 41K and a base gt around 35. and a average v6 around 28-31

DO YOU HEAR US FORD? we know what inflation is but PLEASE dont kill the stang because you price it out of the hands of most working class.

No. 2 - 3 years from now. Expect 50% depreciation in 3 years on a Mustang GT of any year. A loaded $40k 2011 GT will be $20k in 3 years. A $30k stripper, $15k.

I'm going to go with a "no" on that one. I don't think all Mustangs will depreciate equally. The more optioned a car is, the more it will depreciate. But a $30k stripper going for $15k in 3 years? Not likely unless it's got 60k miles or more on it. On the other hand, if there are GTs that cheap in 3 years, I might have to find a mate for my V6. .

'05s are still selling for better than $15k.

You mean like they did the T-Bird?

They took a really cool model and killed it by targeting the over 50 crowd and tacking on $25k to the price and giving it a crappy engine. Dealers didn't help with their $10k markups.

Ford will NOT make that mistake on the Mustang. At least not for long.

The engine was pretty **** stout for 3.9L. Don't forget it was 2002.

I wonder how they will hold their value compared to the 03-04 cobras? I sold my 03 10th anniversary in 2007 for $25k with 45k miles on it. The car was like brand new and was a show car. Will be intereting to find out. Of course we don't buy these for resell value anyway but the enjoyment factor.

What a mess that thing was. Talk about an Edsel deja vu.

Check cars.com. And Carmax (no haggle... no negotiation... no good deals.)

Initial dealer asking price tends to be higher on the "3 year old" models. This are SIX year old models I'm referring to. I've been scanning the prices for a while. That doesn't mean there isn't one out there. A flood car. A salvage title. I'm sure you could find ONE to prove me wrong. But I'd love to see a $30k stripper '08 GT for $15k.
