Just the opposite here. Longhorn really sucks, all of them around here, Outback around here are much better.
My little nephews love going to TR, I always make a point to take them when I'm on the Gulf. I think they just like being able to throw the peanut shells on the floor because their mom and dad are so strict at the house about cleanliness. Makes them feel like rebels. 
I actually like it too, probably my favorite when it comes to chain steak house restaurants. But I prefer local joints when I travel, that's where you get the best food.

That would drive me crazy!

Just point to the menu and order another drink. 
Since I'm in silence most of the time, I enjoy crowd watching for a 'people fix' every other week or so.
But I know what you mean about trying to have a conversation and listen to one voice with all the background noise.

Filled the crock pot with pinto/white beans and a ham hock to cook all day, cheeseburger macaroni, creamed taters, fried okra, cornbread.
