This is just a work of art. The angry bass line that Berry Oakley is playing, the way the crescendo just builds up through the song, Duane and Dickey on the guitars, Greg on that Hammond B3 organ, Butch and Jaimoe on the drums until it finally hits that climax and then drops back down into that dirty, gritty blues ending.
I've analyzed that song for years. Listened to countless performances of it. Its just so moving, you just don't really hear songs that capture the artists emotions like that anymore. That wasn't written to sell records, that was written to capture a moment in time and preserve it, to share it, to affect others feeling the same thing, to move people.
The raw, guttural wails of Gregg's voice gives me chills. That **** is straight from the heart, straight from deep down in the soul.

Funny, I knew exactly what song you were talking about before I clicked the link. I saw them live in 98, and I know it's nothing like when Duane was there, but was still a fantastic show. Derek trucks and warren Haynes was also there. Derek played a set with his band first and then turned around and played the entire set with Allman.
Warren is a BAMF.

I thought you would like that.
You should really read this book, lots of insight and a lot of disturbing things in it that foretells the downfall of rock and roll royalty.

Amazing performance. That triple lead with Allen Collins, Gary Rossington and Steve Gaines (who I think was the next Duane Allman) is amazing. So cool to see Ronnie give props to Duane during the song ("Play it for Duane Allman" he says).
Pretty amazing if you think about it. That was recorded in England, and over 120,000 people came out to see a bunch of rednecks from the South play. Yeah, their music wasn't just a regional thing.
