That's why I bought the Fairmont, it's an early foxbody, all the Mustang stuff fits, some with a little tweaking. It was cheaper to buy than a fox Mustang, and I am in the process of building it for as dirt cheap as possible.
Here's a few pics of the motor. Picked up some GT40P heads for it from an Explorer, those will go nicely with a mild cam and some headers.

Who said anything about a wife? heh heh I'm single, no gf at the moment.
I would love to have it running by September to be able to drive it a bit before winter, but it's not looking likely. Instead it will probably be ready to drive next spring. I still need to chase down a c4 bellhousing, among other things, to make it all work, and probably take apart and re-build the c4 while I'm at it. The pump needs to come out of it to change the bellhousing anyway.
Here's a few pics of the car. One is its pretty much current state with parts sitting all around it. Another of them is from the previous owner, I bought it with all the bodyside mouldings off and stock steel wheels in place, have since removed the two badges from the front fenders and removed the rocker panel trim. Also removed the wheel arch trim pieces.

It's a 79. It's in overal sound shape underneath, no holes in the floors. It has a little rust in the left rear wheel arch, and a few holes in the front of the rear wheel wells, but nothing structural. I do need to fix the front fender lower mounting areas, someone used a floor jack in a wrong spot. The paint needs work too, might sand it down smooth and flat black it for a cheap solution to that.

I can trump your remembering them. I drove one in 1980. Mom got one. It replaced her 19701/2 Ford Falcon. I really liked that body style. And the 19701/2 Falcon replaced a 1960 Ford Falcon.....which I also drove. Now how is that for being old??

Then she got a 1984 Granada..............

My 1st car was a 1962 White Ford Fairlane. Had a 170 ci 6 cyl with 3 on the tree shifting. I put a thrush glasspac and hijacker air shocks on it.
just a picture of a 62 not my car. I never though to take a picture of it.
