Open Letter to Charger SRT8 Driver...
ya know, if that Charger had 2 less doors...
however, I can see the draw of a 4-door family/muscle car. It gets to be a bit of a hassle to get my toddler in and out of the back seat!

Well that solves everything at least he has the same taste. Quit complaining about the hassle, at least you didn't have to get rid of yours for the kids like some poor sap on here who had to trade his in for a minivan
And I would NEVER trade it in for a freakin' minivan. Sorry, but any woman who tried to make me do that would have to hit the road. I have my limits...

I raced a Charger R/T with the R/T package (nice job marketing that one guys...) a month ago. He took off before I had a chance to downshift. He took off, I quickly dropped to 3rd, turned off the T/C, and the chase was on. I was surprised how fast I caught him. I about ran into the back of him by the time we got to the off ramp. He was on it, I had to keep lifting before we got to the expressway and I could swing around him.
Then of course, some stupid $(*($*(#*$(#*(#$*) in a blue Neon....for no reason....slams on brakes from the right lane (4 lane highway), and moves over in front of him. For no reason. There was no exit, no traffic, no debris in the road. Just.....BRAKES, crank the wheel to the left. So he had to swerve, then I had to since he was headed towards me now. This is all about 120mph.
SAFE....
R/t charger does 0-60 in about 6.2 seconds
srt-8 charger can pull it in 4.88
mustang gt does it in 5.2 approx
Ive owned both an r/t and currently own a srt-8(and ordered a grabber loaded gt)
The r/t charger WILL run down a mustang GT, stang gets it off the line then the charger will run it down, ive done it against stock gt's under controlled races racing people I know, not by MUCH, and if the gt gets the jump ioff you to much off the line you wont/cant catch him before you get into stuipid speeds.
a srt-8 will -eat- a gt, remember it can run NECK and neck wth a 400hp gto.... and um.. the mustang.. 300hp.. cant take a gto.
300hp mustang 3600 pounds = 12lb/hp
425hp srt-8 4200 pounds =9.8lb/hp
340 tq also vs 420 tq
Its all in the mods.. you can spend 5 grand on mods for the srt-8 and be LUCKY if you get a 30hp raise... everything fights you along the way, I simply GAVE UP on the r/t, it was pointless.. and the srt8 is even worst, I know a guy that did a head/cam swap and gained something like 30-35hp.. lol.....
a simple tune, cai, and gears(from what I have read so far) and the stang will hold if not beat a srt-8
Respect these cars for what they are, not what you want them to be.
The srt-8 is FAST, like it or not, its a fast 4 door family muscle car that WILL eat you up stock, oh, and it looks fcking badass so dont be a hater

As for the GTO having 400hp. If you read some of the articles where they compete, the nearly 100hp difference bearly does much more advantage to the GT.
Have to admit, never followed the gto much, all I remember is the massive war there used to be between the srt-8 and the gto.. and it was pretty much agreed on that they were neck and neck and would be a total drivers race.
If its true that the gto barly had an advantage against the gt then the same would hold true for the srt8
I actually got the 4.88 from the 0-60 timers we have in the srt-8
the later models.. 07 I belive it was first put in, have a 0-60 timer in the dash, you set up nail the gas and it times your 0-60 and displays it in the evic..
um.. have to be honest, never checked to see if its accurate LOL

The GTO and SRT-8 are closer cometitors to one another than the Mustang is to either. The fact that a Mustang will make a close race with either vehicle is impressive enough. With the most minor mods, a Mustang will win the race.

Why cant we just congratulate the man for doing what we all should, showing the Ford Mustang power is indeed the best. But all this talk about add ons and weight, you must also remember, parts for Mustangs are much more available than parts for Hemis.
Yup, Ford is heads and tails WAY above Nopar and the others for aftermarket, its the main reason I ordered a mustang, I want a car that looks sweet as hell, has tons of mods, and with a few simple ones can really roll with the best.
GTO vs SRT-8 vs Mustang GT
I've owned both an LS2 GTO (M6) and now currently own an '07 Mustang GT (M5).
Mustang GT - 3600 lbs, 275 rwhp, ~13lbs/RWHP
LS2 GTO - 3800 lbs, 360 rwhp, ~10.5lb/RWHP
Hemi Charger - 4100 lbs, 290 rwhp, ~14.1lbs/RWHP
Hemi Charger with R&T - 4100 lbs, 290 rwhp, ~14.1lbs/RWHP
SRT-8 - 4250 lbs, 380 rwhp (most are under-rated), ~11.1lbs/RWHP
The GTO has a LOT of low end grunt - but it is a heavier car and felt a lot heavier than the Mustang GT than just the 300 lbs. BUT - the GTO is an animal once it gets moving the LS2 is a screamer and the 400hp comes on quickly. And the automatic (A4) GTO is even quicker yet than it's 6-speed sibling. A GTO against a Mustang GT should go to the GTO more often than not, assuming drivers are equal.
The Mustang GT, while lighter but still giving away 100 hp to the GTO, feels a lot faster than the GTO, probably due to the fact it is a smaller car. And in the looks department, most of the civilized world gives the nod to the S197 over the Charger OR the GTO.
In the real world - not in the magazines - with equal drivers, the M6 GTO will often have its hands full with a properly driven GT. Ah... but the A4 GTO will have an easier go of it. The LS2 GTO is easily a mid/low 13 second car, especially the A4. But MOST drivers in M6 GTO's will make short work of the 300hp Mustang GT.
The Hemi Charger R/T with the R&T (Road and Track package which adds 10 more HP to the 340 hp Charger R/T, is usually easy prey to the GT - (I've killed two of R/T's just in the last two weeks I've owned the Grabber). The additional 10 hp of the R&T package has a negligible effect in the real world. And a Hemi Charger R/T versus a GTO is ugly for the MOPAR.
One important fact - the Hemi Charger (not the SRT-8) weighs MUCH MORE than the GTO (~4100lbs versus ~3800lbs) and only has 340/350 hp. A properly driven 5speed Mustang GT should take a Charger R/T every time. The R/T's that I've seen run at the track (again, not in the magazine) STRUGGLE to get to 14.0's. MOST S197 GT's easily run high/mid 13's with a decent driver. I repeat - this is REAL WORLD, AT THE TRACK, not in the magazines.
But - the SRT-8 IS a different animal. They are easily VERY low 13 second killers and a few have been known to hit 12.9's at the right track with all the planets and stars aligned properly. Same with an A4, LS2 GTO - easily a very low 13 second car, occasionally bumping into the high 12's stock. An SRT-8 versus an M6 GTO will probably go to the SRT-8 most of the time; against an A4 GTO it is definitely a driver's race. An SRT-8 against a Mustang GT is usually ugly - for the Mustang.
To summarize in the real world and with stock versus stock (Factory delivered stock, not tuned and tweaked 'stock'): the SRT-8 and an A4 LS2 GTO is a driver's race. A Hemi Charger (R&T package or not) will lose to an LS2 GTO nearly every time. A Hemi Charger against a Mustang GT will more often than not lose to the Mustang. A Mustang against an M6 GTO is a good race; against an A4 GTO the GTO should take it most of the time. And a Mustang against an SRT-8 should go to the SRT-8 most of the time.

Coming from both ends here...
I have a 2006 Charger R/T(No R&T Package) with a K&N intake on it. The only time it has seen the track, I managed a 14.8 out of it, best run. This is at about 3,600 elevation during a night with 68+/-5 degree temp and absolutely no humidity. For the weight, it runs pretty good in my opinion. It also has a nice stock sound. There have been stock SRT-8 Chargers that have hit high 12's, which is impressive for a "bus".
As for the GT, I believe it would be a good race with a R/T. Hopefully one of these days, i'll get to line the two of them up and see which one goes faster. I love both cars. The R/T is more practical because of the other 2 doors, but the MASSIVE A pillar doesn't let you see a **** thing. I can see out of the GT wonderfully, and it sounds better than the HEMI. Also, the MDS is a beautiful thing.

You people need to get your priorities straight.
