And as proof of my statement, here is a factory dyno sheet from 1965.

That proves they underrated the engines. That doesn't prove the Hemi made 800hp or whatever that stupid tv show said it did.

I was really surprised at the hemi as I had heard plenty of times that the advertised hp and tq ratings were lowball just to please the insurance companies. live and learn i guess.
Seems to me the best or the best put down just over 500 gross from Dodge and GM, I can't remeber any dyno runs for a Boss 429 so I'm not sure about the Ford being in the 500+ hp club in stock trim.

Yes, they did under-rate engines alot, but they would also exagerate HP claims. It was common place to do gross horsepower ratings which essentially was just the motor hooked to the dyno sans accessories of any sort and sometimes even using dyno headers. HP back then like HP today sells (a fact not lost on Detroit's Asian competitors as they did some tweaking and fiddling to produce higher HP numbers even though at that time said engines produced less in actual running configuration).

Anyways, I'm sure if you dynoed the 6.1 liter hemi of today, despite nearly lacking a full liter in displacement, it would nearly match or exceed the older engines output, or in the case of GMs own current LS7 - It would kick the stuffing out of any of GMs previous big blocks, even the famed LS6 and LS7 454's of yesteryear.

I have an odler issue of MCR, I think it was from 2005, with a reprinted article from 1970 on dyno'ing the Boss 429.

386 engine hp peak on a '69 model, somewhere are 6 grand even.

I also have a site where somebody dyno'd a stock ZL-1/4-speed Camaro and got over 425rwhp. Then there is an article of the Mopar Muscle site that dyno'd a stock, daily-driver condition, '67-spec Hemi GTX (w/ slushbox) at 354rwhp. Not bad considering the less than ideal circumstances.

Blah, blah, blah. give it a rest. Gears won't help the R/T even it there were gears available. The only thing that will help it is a diet or more hp.

I forgot about this thread, I thought I was dead meat against an SRT8 I ran into at the dragstrip on friday but I handed him his lunch, I doubt he was all that happy. See my post about my dragstrip experience for a more detailed report.

I'm sorry you had to cower a half a mile behind me until I turned off because you were ashamed to show your face. Furthermore, I feel really bad about literally waving bye-bye to you when the boost kicked in and the Vortech unleashed itself... I bet you didn't see that coming. I feel really bad about not having fifty labels on the outside of my car to let you know it's supercharged and was about to eat your 6.1L Hemi for breakfast. "Was that a Hemi way back there?" And while I'm at it, I'm sorry you had to take a long lunch today so you could go to the Ford dealer and see about trading in that bus for a Mustang.

Not very respectfully,
Ray just curious, are you in Clear Lake? I travel 146 everyday in that area, wish I could have seen it.

I wish people like you and SixtySix would quit cluttering up this thread with facts and real-life results, this thread is for people like Metroplex to benchrace themselves into thinking the SRT8 is actually a hot rod Just kidding, awesome kill! And kudos to you for taking it to the track, just as it should be!

actually, after reading the performance numbers of the SRT-8's, (~425 hp), I thought it would master a mustang. Then I watched motorweek and saw the numbers they got with an SRT-8 and I couldn't believe it! Apparently they aren't nearly as fast as one might think. My feeling is it's a drivers race between an SRT-8 and a stock GT. Throw a vortech on and it's game over...

I didn't get a SRT8, but some guy in an R/T thought he would beat me. Guess he knows his lesson now.

Exactly! My other vehicle is turbocharged and has 515hp, but has the acceleration of a big pile of crap due to slight weight issues.

Don't be h 8 n

As an owner of both breeds (Mustang and Charger Daytona), and obviously having driven both, I'd certainly say the Mustang GT is quicker and in handles a scoche better; but, not by much. With the right guy behind the wheel I'm sure an SRT-8 or Daytona for that matter would be more than a challange.
