Open Letter to Charger SRT8 Driver...
Right on, brutha!! Posts like yours are the reason I have decided to keep mine a "sleeper"...as much as it can be with hood scoop and red racing stripes, anyhow!
I was tempted to SC badge my pony, but decided that it was more fun to catch snobby *** Mopar and Chevy dudes off guard!

Ok so i guess they bs'd about the power of the stock 426 hemi, and i believed it.... but it was one of the meanest motors ever produced and no disputing that. being partial to ford I loved the numbers that the 427 put down! I was really surprised at the hemi as I had heard plenty of times that the advertised hp and tq ratings were lowball just to please the insurance companies. live and learn i guess.
They were underrated, but there is no way that hemi or the ford were bone stock. They probably did make that much power, but not bone stock. Some "minor" modifications I'm sure, were done before the dyno. 800hp is nearly 2hp/cid! No way out of a stock motor on non-race gas! Not when manufacturers today are just cracking 1.5hp/cid with all the engine advances and technology.

Here's another Charger awaiting you. Shouldn't be hard to spot LOL. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Dodge...08256198QQrdZ1
My point was that the SRT-8 isn't the killer that most people think it is. I was quite surprised when going up against them, I half expected to lose those races, and I didn't. And I'm an automatic as well. In fact the guy who posted the 13's did so manually shifting, when all he could manage was 14's letting it shift itself
The stock SRT-8's have a torque limiting function in their computer program for first gear from what I understand. Evidently D/C couldn't make a strong enough drivetrain for that heavy car. Not having full power in 1st will DESTROY their ET. ET races are won and lost on the starting line. That is why their 1/4 mile times are not that great, but if you look at the mph, I bet it is signifigantly higher than the 'stangs. It loses the race on the start, but powers it's way through the top end.

The strength of the drivetrain is not the issue however. It's more a matter of German computer engineering.

I know someone with just a CAI they hit 12.9
Although it his a 40k car to start, 10k in the stang and I'd easily hit that.
Speaking of saving the tranny/drivetrain......

Funny because I know a guy who has a 400ci '70 Firebird... rated at 345 gross hp from that factory, and bone stock his put out a tick over 300hp to the rear wheels.
I've seen high-mileage, slushboxe-tranny Hemi cars do 350rwhp in stock form, too, when the net rating in '71 was only 350hp.
According to all the old car guys I hang out with, most old car motors were underrated signifigantly.

Top fuel dragsters aren't even CLOSE to an old Hemi. They run INSANE amounts of boost, 500+ cubic inches, 1/4" larger valves, dual plug heads, nitromethane, fuel injection, they have zoomies, virtually NO drivetrain loss...
Not even close in design, aside from looking similar on the outside.
350hp stock 426ci N/A Hemi with 45 year-old tech =/= 7000hp race 500ci blown Hemi with brand-new tech
