I actually really like Charger SRT8s. Muscle car with utility, even if it's not as fast as my car, I still think they are very cool cars.
And I happen to like the HEMIs. I'd trade the mod 4.6 in my car for a 5.7 Hemi with cylinder de-activation (I know that is not the engine in the SRT8s) seven days a week! What do they push, like 325hp/375tq??? Hell yeah I'll take that!
If only Ford would have put an engine with those numbers in the Mustang!

The SRT-8s weigh about 4160 lb and have 425 hp (9.8:1 weight to hp ratio) That is still faster than the S197 GT which weighs 3450 lb and has 300 hp (11.5:1 weight to hp ratio). The Dodge Hemi Charger R/T police car can run 14.2 in the 1/4 mile bone stock, and the Dodge Hemi Charger SRT-8 usually runs low 13s bone stock. The R/T only has 340-350 hp while the SRT-8 has 425 hp. There's a big difference, but both engines (5.7L Hemi V8 w/ MDS, and 6.1L Hemi V8 w/o MDS) produce no less than 300 ft-lb of torque from 1500 RPM.
BTW, the high 13's and low 14's I mention are what most stock automatic GT's here run as well. That's here at the 2 tracks I have available in the greater Phoenix area. I could care less what times are at other tracks, because it means nothing really.

Run whatcha brung. Exactly. It doesn't matter that stock for stock an SRT-8 would walk a Mustang GT, all that matters is that the OP wasn't stock, and walked the SRT-8 instead.

I too, have personally stomped an SRT-8 w/ my minimal mods. There's no way an S197 would get 'eaten' by this 4-door monstrosity unless the Mustang's driver missed a gear. Stock-stock would be a very close race w/ the SRT-8 having the advantage if it was a highway race and he already had his weight moving.

Nothing slow about a car that big running high 13's though.
It's definitely a driver's race, even with a CAI. The normal R/T's are easy to beat. I am dying to line up against someone who bought the lime green one...

this argument reminds me of my LS1 days when the Terminator came out and everybody on LS1tech.com said "if our cars were supercharged from the factory blah blah blah" SRT8 got owned..thought he was "picking" on a lesser car and had to turn on his A/C to cool down his rosy embarrassed cheeks!

the only real hemi was the 426 street hemi. it was no joke. it layed down over 800 horsepower and over 600 ft lbs of torque pretty much bone stock. the factory underrated its horsepower rating. I saw a show last week on them and it put out some serious power. these new hemis are a joke compared to it.
NICE KILL!!!

My next door neighbor just traded his 07 GT for a boring 07 Charger. I have heard the words R/T and H$%i about 1000 too many times in 1 week. I can't wait to get him to the track! I've ridden in the car: it rides very nice, has a lot of torque, but you can still tell it weighs over 4K. I agree with Faber, the 426 is THE H$%I, and all of these others are nice engines with H$%i stamped on them.

Ray - nice kill and way to show up a guy who thought he had a much larger/more powerful engine and could easily stomp you. That'll teach him to be a bit more observent before he picks on what he thinks to be less powerful cars....GOLD!!
You should have pulled him over and explained what he needs to look for to spot a V6 .

Well it was an 'even' contest to begin with
stock Mustang GT - what 28K?.... 4.6 liter
Charger SRT 8 - 36K?.... 6.1 liter
Vortech kit and install for the Mustang - 6K?......
Pricing looks about even.
a STOCK GT and a STOCK SRT 8 - um YEAH - the Dodge BETTER ^#@@!% beat it considering it is an SRT division flagship car and 10K more in the price dept.......
NICE kill man - don't badge that stang - let 'em bite and then BURN 'em....

I see what you're saying, though.
