Open Letter to Charger SRT8 Driver...

Dear Mr. Charger SRT8 driver,

I wanted to quickly apologize for my behavior today. When you offered to race on Texas Highway 146 on my way to work this morning, I couldn't help myself. I'm sorry that I left you in the dust and had you by at least 5 car lengths at 115 miles per hour. I'm sorry you had to cower a half a mile behind me until I turned off because you were ashamed to show your face. Furthermore, I feel really bad about literally waving bye-bye to you when the boost kicked in and the Vortech unleashed itself... I bet you didn't see that coming. I feel really bad about not having fifty labels on the outside of my car to let you know it's supercharged and was about to eat your 6.1L Hemi for breakfast. "Was that a Hemi way back there?" And while I'm at it, I'm sorry you had to take a long lunch today so you could go to the Ford dealer and see about trading in that bus for a Mustang.

Not very respectfully,

Stock vs Stock, the Dodge Hemi Charger SRT-8 would have eaten any S197 GT for breakfast, or at least run a close race with a factory "freak".

Nope. But he was racing a stock or N/A Dodge Hemi Charger SRT-8 (or it could have been a V6 or R/T depending on if the original poster verified the badging on the Dodge Hemi Charger). The biggest drawback to the SRT-8 is that weighs about 4200-4300 lb, nearly 900 lb heavier than the S197 GT so it would be easy pickings for a blown S197 GT. If you can add a blower to the SRT-8, it would be quite a formidable car during illegal street races.

You're forgetting something Metroplex... weight. SRT8's are actually pretty slow. I've raced 3 at the track and the best one I've seen could only muster a 13.8. Most ran in the low 14's. A stock GT has no problem keeping up at all.

if you add displacment to the Mustang engine it would go the other way. ...this could go on forever. stop reading into it so much and enjoy the post.

The SRT-8s weigh about 4160 lb and have 425 hp (9.8:1 weight to hp ratio) That is still faster than the S197 GT which weighs 3450 lb and has 300 hp (11.5:1 weight to hp ratio). The Dodge Hemi Charger R/T police car can run 14.2 in the 1/4 mile bone stock, and the Dodge Hemi Charger SRT-8 usually runs low 13s bone stock. The R/T only has 340-350 hp while the SRT-8 has 425 hp. There's a big difference, but both engines (5.7L Hemi V8 w/ MDS, and 6.1L Hemi V8 w/o MDS) produce no less than 300 ft-lb of torque from 1500 RPM.

The Vortech S197 GT will undoubtedly run faster than a stock SRT-8 (no brainer). If the SRT-8 had a blower w/ gears steeper than 2.82:1, it would be better competition.

Yeah, and if I added four wheels and a rocket engine to my grandma, she could beat every car on the street. That doesn't change the fact that one of those cocky bastards got his *** handed to him, and I was lovin' every minute of it.

But its got a HEMI in it!

God I get so sick of hearing that. Ever see the sticker on one of those cars?Like I told a Chrysler dealer... Why would I want to pay more money to go slower! I could slap a nice blower in a Stang and still come out cheaper!
Congrats on the kill!
