gas milage

I have an 06 GT, 5 speed. I drive 75 miles a day mixed local and highway ( mostly highway). Use the speed control when possible. I have all kinds of mods and have to use 93 ot. My average is always 24-25 mpg. Of course if I put the peddel to the metal it goes to 20-21. I gas up once a week for a total of 375 miles per tank. If I did local driving only, I think I would be in the 18 mpg range. Have fun, thats what it's for.

Yes, I find the same thing... around 60 mph in 5th gear, on a flat highway, I get about what the sticker says: 24-25mpg.

If I increase the speed to 70 mph, it drops to 20-21. Not sure what 80-85 is, but it would definitely be under 20 mpg.

Remember that "mixed" driving means different things, depending on your location. Stop and go city traffic is murder on mileage. When you're sitting stopped in traffic, you are getting 0 mpg. I live in a small town, with lots of traffic lights and stop signs, speed limits between 25 and 35, and hardly any bumper-to-bumper traffic. In town I get 15-16 mpg consistently. On my normal work commute, which is 75% highway and 25% "city", I am getting about 20 mpg at best.

Oh, and I always use the cruise control on the highway.

I think you should sell it and buy a honda or toyota and move on personally. You are adamant you have an issue even after many people have said they are getting the same mileage for comprable driving conditions. I am not trying to be a d*ck but I dont see the issdue and many others have not. You are looking for a magic bullet and there isnt one IMO.

80mph is NOT 15mpg territory. That is like 120mph area.

I always measure by exact mileage on fillups, and have yet to see 18mpg. I'm rarely in traffic and rarely on the highway, lots of sweeping parkways and back roads. If you just leave the message center alone its fairly accurate at the end of a tank. I put the exhaust on last tank and the mileage went down because I like the way it sounds at 3000 rpm cruising

But I had an 06 V6 over a year and it never got into the 18's either.

Definitely try it at a speed between 60 and 65 mph. Also, I think it is significant that you smell fuel. It is quite possible there is a leak somewhere.

I hope whatever dealer you take it to can find something.

While I would not expect your mileage to be the same at 80-85 mph vs. 60-65, that seems lower than what is expected. I have gotten 22-24 mpg on the highway at 70-75 mph.

Thanks Tony....Have appointment to take it in on Wednesday....trying not to drive it that much this weekend before I take it in. Just got my GTA exhaust in...waiting for them to find the cause of the smell before I put them on so they can't blame it on my new exhaust!....Still contemplating getting the Tune/CAI combo...?

Bought and took it into Brandon Ford....also took it into Bill Currie Ford to get a comparison on thier results. If it wasn't for this car and the way it drive/sounds/looks....I would have already sold it because of the service/results I have been getting from Ford and would have gone back to Audi or Mercedes (by far the best service I have ever recieved)....sorry to say! But I love the Mustang...so I am sticking with them.

I've been calculating my mileage since my first oil change at 1200 miles (I figured it was broken in by then) in my '06 GT automatic. I'm now at ~8000 miles and have averaged 17.4 MPG in mixed city and highway driving. I have a heavy foot and now that summer is here I expect my MPG to drop with increased A/C use.

I've managed to meet or exceed the EPA fuel economy ratings for each of the seven or eight vehicles I've driven for more than a few tanks. On my daily driver, I exceed the highway rating even with my 50/50 mixed city/highway driving mix.

It's all in how and where you drive.
