On the lighter side
I'm an Aircraft Maintenance Operations Manager for Independence Air out of Washington Dulles Airport. Basically in charge of coordinating all of our aircraft maintenance throughout the US. Its a great company to work for. Have been with the Airlines for 19 years. Its a pretty good industry if you can keep your job in these times. Put 7k down on the car and financed the rest. Got the "A" plan through a dealer in Ohio.

While I understand that accounting is about as much fun as having dental work done---how do you move from orthodontic assistant to accounting? I assume there was formal training in between? Or do you just have a knack for numbers??

Its mindnumbingly boring...
PLUS the company needed someone to do it.
I am not a formal accountant, I keep track of all our customers and when they will be paying us, plus I verify new accounts.
I did ortho from 16-23. Hades- I even went to college in California for it. BUT the last job I had was the one I "forgot" to tell my employer I had gotten pregnant- big oops.
So I stayed home with the kids and did doodly squat for 5 years-until my hubbys company hired me-my husband is my Boss
.
I'm a Sales and Marketing Manager @ Hilton Hotels. I just graduated college 2 years ago and am getting my experience needed for my career. I went to college at Penn State for Hotel and Restaraunt Management and plan on going for my masters degreee 2-3 years from now. I need this degree if I want to go into the corporate office. My first goal is to become General Manager and then go into corporate offices.
Yeah I'm that manager who comes down to meet a guest because they've had problems with their stay (when the GM isn't available), etc. which some are WAAAAY off the wall.

When I got my mustang, I opened my own checking account up. Then I put my payroll checks in there to cover my own car payment. My husband and I share one checking account, but I didn't want him to say HE pays for MY car... lol.
BTW -- I work at a insurance company near my home. So, thats how I pay for my pony.

Army Sergeant First Class currently deployed to Baghdad (where it's hot and busy today). Dropped half down on an '06 GT--just hoping it'll be ready for me when I get back home.

Production Manager at a local TV station. I write, shoot and cut commercials and local television programs.
I like to play with the toys, but the toys were very expensive. So I found someone to buy the toys for me and pay me to play with them.

23 year old Airman First Class in USAF. I maintain the radios that talk to the aircraft from the ground, and just started working with the navigational and weather equipment on the ground that communicates with the aircraft. I'm over here in England right now for a few years, hoping to go back to the States next so I can get myself ready to finish college. I'm wanting to do Network Administration, which I hear is a tough field to break in to right now but I'm determined!
i am an Archtectural Designer for a homebuilder that builds in 10 states
Nebraska, Iowa, Minnesota, South Dakota, Wyoming, Colorado, Kansas, Missouri, Wisconsin, Illinois
the concept for our type of homes is the walls are built a a factory (studs only) and then the homeowner can choose to build it themselves to save money and create instant equity
we have different phases where everything needed to build the house comes in a package price and is delivered to the jobsite as needed

I have been in the photo/imaging industry for 20 years. I am currently a sales manager for an Israeli based company that manufactures high end digital printing equipment. Range in cost from 25k to 1 Million $. I was saving for an old Shelby when the 05 was announced. By the time I took delivery, I had saved enough to pay cash. I consider myself very fortunate.
I'm a mechanical (CAD) designer. I work at a DOE nuclear physics lab, designing cryomodules (cryogenic particle accelerators). In the past,I have worked on SSN688 class submarines, CVN aircraft carriers, Boeing 747's, MV22 Osprey's, etc.
I'm transistioning from supporting microsoft apps like Exchange to becoming a Peoplesoft administrator for my company, Printpack. Good opportunity for me as we're just now installing the software so I get in on the ground floor with lots of training. Prior to IT I spent 7 years in the Navy as a nuke submariner; a boring, frustrating, and thankless job that still managed to be pretty cool most of the time. The wife's a pharmacist and makes as much as I do while working half the hours. Oh yeah, I'm also going to school to get an economics degree and have 2 kids so no money for mods. I figure I'm fortunate just to have the car really.
