I hope I don't get escorted out when I tell me dealer I can afford no more than $28k after warranty TT&L, plus my $400 deposit (28,400 total)... which breaks down to roughly $24.9k or $800 (3%) over invoice.
... And I'm serious when I say I can't afford more than that. I'm only getting $8.50/hr plus going to school full time.

Went to my local dealer yesterday to get pricing, salesman told me they have 3- V6, 3- GT'S coming in. He told me they were selling the 05 mustang at MSRP. Thanks to this site, I told him I would not pay MSRP, that I would order my car and pay no more than 500.00 over invoice. He gave me this funny look , I told him I had the price sheet, and know that other people have been paying 300.00 to 500.00 over invoice. He told me when I am ready to order, give him a price and he will see what he can do. I should be ordering within the next 3 weeks.
I will post the price when I place my order.

I have just spent the better part of an hour emailing every dealer within 100 miles of me. It turned out to be about 20 of them.....
I asked for availability, when they would be in and pricing.
Will let y'all know.

A-plan pricing on a Redfire premium GT at Varsity Ford in Ann Arbor. Evidently, 70-some percent of their business is A/Z/D/X plan so they always "honor" the pin numbers when folks have 'em, and rarely sell for sticker if even if they don't (they have a HUGE volume, so they can afford to sell near invoice)
For what it's worth, Varsity has been the most unusual car dealership I've ever visited. No lies, no pushy tactics, no b.s. I strolled in on May 24th in jeans and a baseball cap and placed the order for my GT without a hitch. Left $500 and got a pre-order sheet listing my specs and the A-plan agreement. Mark Skankowski, my salesman, calls every time there's and update on my order (VIN, scheduling date, etc). Since placing my order, I've generated two additional sales with Varsity, a Focus for my kid sister and an F-150 for my old man. Will likely steer my mother to buying a V6 Mustang from them next spring.
Which brings me to the good news. Complements of Varsity's unusually large volume, they have some 15 Mustangs ordered (all of which were scheduled this week). Mine and 4 others are pre-orders, which means the other 10 are dealer stock! Anyone in or near Southeast Michigan should give them a serious look. My experience could not have gone better.

Those who are getting the MSRP dance from the dealer (including some fellow Hampton Roads, VA area Mustangers) remember -
That is just the first salvo in the negotiation. They do NOT have to stick to it, and you SURE don't!
Never hesitate to walk if you don't like the offer. Your feet and legs are your best asset in a negotiation. Betcha they come after you with another offer. Then the fun really begins.

Larson Ford Rt. 88
Bricktown, NJ
$500 over invoice
I originally went to Larson Ford in Toms River, and was greeted by a salesman waiting outside the door. "Can I help you?" he asked as I walked up and, smiling, I replied "only if your in the mood to sell me a car." So everything started off smooth until he asked me what I was planning on buying, to which I told him the 05 mustang. Well, a sad look crossed his face as he informed me that they didn't have the prices. Smiling inwardly I handed him the price list and comforted him by saying "Well, I do."
We go in and sit down, and then he comes to the question. "How much are you willing to spend on this?" Of course, after reading this board now for several months I told him five hundred over invoice. He was rattled, I could tell, and went back to talk to his boss. Whelp, he came back and handed me the price list with an apology and the excuse "that's too hot, we can't do it."
After walking right out I went to rt. 88 and they initially told me 1000 over invoice, but that whittled away as I told them that I was aware of several people buying the mustang for 500 over. He relented and now, this is the kicker, I have to wait 4-6 months for it to come in. Long time.
Is 4-6 months average time to wait for a hot car?

No, 4-6 months is the average time before a "hot" car cools down and they start offering them for less $... In other words, they think (know) that they can sell close to MSRP for 4 to 6 months.

So basically they're screwing with me and aren't putting the order in until later when things cool down?

Jordan Ford In Mishawaka, Indiana (East Of South Bend) will sell you an 05 on X-Plan. I just ordered mine yesterday and it was the most pleasent experience I have ever had at a dealership. Suprisingly, I was the first person at that dealership that ordered an 05! B)
If you go there, ask for David Broome and tell him Neil sent you. He will set you up. I asked what they would be selling non X-Plan vehicles for and he wasnt sure. He said
FYI: I asked the sales manager what the expected shipdate was, he said thay they were already invoiced for their allocation. He said he doesnt get invoiced unless the vehicles are in route.

Today I looked at the AAA website and their car buying program. I did the build form and got a certificate to buy a 2005 Mustang at 300 under invoice. After I received the certificate from the AAA site I received a phone call from te local dealer within minutes and the dealer was anxious for me to order at 300 under invoice.
That sounds like a very good deal for such a popular car. B)
By the way, I am in Northern Virginia.
