This Amazing 1968 Mustang Bullitt Is Actually a Brand New Car

Brand New 1968 Mustang Bullitt Recreation

Put together using nothing but brand new, off the shelf components, this 1968 Mustang Bullitt recreation is nothing short of stunning.

The Mustang Bullitt is one of those cars that needs no introduction, a simple, green, menacing machine that pretty much any car enthusiast could pick out of a crowd even without a single badge or hint provided. Like Eleanor from Gone in 60 Seconds fame, the Bullitt has gone on to inspire many recreations, whether that be individual builds or full-blown production runs, and in this case, even multiple special edition models from The Blue Oval itself. However, this 1968 Mustang Bullitt – which is set to cross the block at Barrett-Jackson’s Las Vegas auction – is wholly unique in that there wasn’t a single old piece used in its construction.

Built by the appropriately-named Brand New Muscle Cars out of Oklahoma, this 1968 Mustang Bullitt was put together using nothing but brand new parts – yes, every nut and bolt here is off the shelf, not vintage, incredibly enough. One would be hard-pressed to tell that  just by looking at this amazing machine, which is actually titled as a 1968 Mustang, too.

Regardless, the project started with an officially-licensed reproduction Ford body shell, which is painted Highland Green Axalta with a matte finish for a more vintage look. It’s complemented by matte black accents and a complete lack of emblems and badging, as well as 17×8-inch matte black painted wheels, all of which combine to give it that authentic Bullitt look. The same goes for the interior, which looks mostly like a stock 1968 Mustang cabin, save for Vintage Air A/C and a Retrosound Bluetooth stereo.

What lies underneath this vintage-looking skin is certainly anything but, however. For starters, this Bullitt replica is powered by a brand new Ford Performance supercharged 5.0-liter Coyote V8, which generates a stout 670 horsepower. It’s backed up by a 6R80 six-speed automatic transmission and a 9-inch rear with 3.50 gears for what we imagine is rowdy performance.

Then there’s the suspension, which has been heavily fortified with a Heidts independent front suspension, power rack and pinion steering, frame connectors, a four-link rear suspension, adjustable coilovers, and Wilwood disc brakes, all of which help the vintage-looking ride handle and perform like a brand new car – which it is, technically. This amazing Bullitt recreation is certainly one of a kind, and given everyone’s love for the iconic movie star, we imagine that it won’t have any trouble at least recouping the $250k it originally sold for when it hist the auction block this month.
