Pasadena Sheriff’s office orders an S550 Ford Mustang Police interceptor to partake in community outreach programs.

We would never advise that you speed on public roadways. Now, we especially recommend you don’t in Pasadena, Texas.  The Pasadena Police Department is getting a brand new S550 Mustang police cruiser.

According to The Houston Chronicle, the police force is currently in the process of ordering their new pony for the stable. Though we don’t have an exact idea of what the car will look like when it’s finished, their article states that it will be “decorated in a big way with decals and lights.”

Created specifically for the Fort Bend County Sheriff’s. The above video from Legacy Ford Rosenberg is what Pasadena is drawing inspiration from. It sounds pretty cool, though,  that thought would be a bit unnerving if the modifications for a police application.

Pasadena police will use the Mustang as part of their community outreach program. The program intends to build a strong relationship between the police force and young citizens in their town.

“We’ll take it schools and parades, things like that, and hopefully it will allow us to connect with the young people,” says Police Chief Josh Bruegge

“A dog and a car are not a good correlation, but a car like this with decals and lights, when the police officers go to a school and encounter children, it’ll be an icebreaker. When the kids come up and look at the car and talk to an officer, they’ll feel comfortable talking to the officer,” says City Councilman Bruce Leamon

As with anything, there are questions that will arise. The Houston Chronicle addresses what is likely the most asked: Who is paying for it? According to Pasadena City Councilman Phil Cayten, the money comes from their child safety fund, which is from speeding ticket fines and various other citations.

Pasadena’s police department is not the first to use a Mustang as a police car. The city of Seal Beach, California has a Mustang Police Interceptor built especially for them by Saleen. Additionally, you may run across an S550 Police car in Germany. They built one with the intent of promoting safety when modifying cars.

In fact, legendary Mustang performance company Steeda even offers purpose-built unmarked police cars.

While it certainly isn’t the first of its kind, we can’t think of a cooler Police car to use to grab the attention of a young crowd.
