Are we not supposed to shoot at signs? Because nobody ever told me not to.

 

Years ago just about every sign around here had bullet holes in them. Nowadays you don't see that many shot up.

My mother worked the gift shop at Carlsbad caverns. Still have relatives who live there. She got to eat as much of the candy as she wanted. A week into the job she ate her last piece and hasn't had candy of any kind since then except chocolate on Christmas morning. That was in the late 50's.

 

Out here we shoot sh*t. If it's standing, outside the city limits (or inside if you're not white) and colorful, it gets shot eventually. You don't see many gays walking around out here with their flag for that reason most likely.

Got a friend out in west Texas setting up a 2.5 mile range on his ranch. He's got a couple of friends that are trying to start up a custom rifle-building company that are using his land to test some of their builds. His step-son is a scout sniper applying for MARSOC, and will probably get in. The two friends are former Marines as well, and the step-son will probably end up being the face of their company at some point for professional shooting competitions and the like. He's invited me out to play around with the range once they've got it set up. I'm awating delivery of an Alexander Arms Ulfberht, a .338 Lapua semi-auto that is, according to everyone I've spoken with, as accurate as a custom-bedded, custom-triggered bolt-action. I've been asked to put it to the test in high-heat conditions, so I'll probably take it out there and judge its accuracy after 100 or so rounds through it during July at around 3pm or so. I'm highly skeptical, but I get to shoot a semi-auto .338 on someone else's dime, so I'm not about to complain.

 

That sounds like a lot of fun! I'd love to shoot a 50mm Barrett M82 at some long distances!

 

They've got a couple .50 BMG caliber rifles, though I don't know if either are the M82. One is a custom build they did themselves, but it doesn't have enough recoil alleviation. It's under .4 MOA out past 2k yards though, so they know what they're doing.
