Yeah, kids are tougher than people give them credit for. Nowadays people coddle them like they're antique china.
Youngest nephew is tough like that too. Fell off a 8' fence a while back and broke his elbow badly. Saw him fall going over and then heard him bawling when he hit the ground on the other side. When they got around there to him it was obviously broken and trying to asses how bad it was, asked him if he was crying because of the pain and he said "No, I'm gonna miss the rest of baseball season and my team needs me"
