2018 GT rattle from transmission/clutch/engine confirmed by service tech

Here are some pics of cylinder #8 and #2. #8 has more scoring. They are in odd locations of the cylinder and no one knows why.

rk88 What happened after you took it to the dealer? I have a 2018 PP with the RPM rattle as well.

To start off, the rattle has grown louder and can be heard during almost the whole RPM range + all gears. I'm only at 6000 miles.

It's been a marathon. 5 visits to two dealerships have yielded nothing. 4 out of the 5 visits they labeled it as "Could not diagnose" even after I have demonstrated it on demand at all times. The 1 time they attempted a fix, it was to replace the intake manifold. The new intake made no difference at all. Currently working with a lawyer under the lemon law for a buyback.

I have the same rattle in my 2019 Mustang GT manual at 2200 rpm most noticeable in 2 and 3 gears. It's only done 1700km. Took it to two different dealers in New Zealand and both have said it's normal for performance cars. They even said that the Ford Ranger manual has the same gearbox sound. What a load of BS....
I see that you got your cylinder heads imaged. Was the damage to the cylinders quite obvious in the images? I am going to ask the dealer to get some imaging done on my GT as well. Any recommendations would be appreciated.
Soul crushing to find out that your new car has a major fault. Hoping for a resolution though.

Do you have any advice for getting to a Ford Buyback position?
I have a 2019 GT with PP1 and I took it to the dealer yesertday and they said that everything was fine. I call BS on them as the car never made that noise the day they took my 42K when I drove it off the lot.

I need help with the process of trying to get it resolved or bought back. Should I get 3 different dealer opinions to start with?

Update: Been working with dealer in North Atlanta, GA in regards to the engine rattle/knock. Dealership opened up a case with Ford Engineering about 2 weeks ago and it was dropped off this morning for more extensive testing.
This afternoon I received a call from the service representative telling me that a new engine was ordered as they found metallic debris in the oil filter.
Mileage on the clock this morning was 1787,7 miles, and I first started hearing the issue right at about 1000 miles.
Just hoping the new motor is not from the same lot build as the other...

Update: Took to local Ford dealer on Friday 6/14/19 for full engine replacement. Received call on 6/18/19 letting me know my car is complete. Currently on vacation and will not be able to pickup until this coming weekend. Asked dealer to take photos of old engine serial/stamp number and new serial/stamp number for my records. Also will be trying to contact someone at Ford in regards to the engine swap as now my GT has lost value since it is not original anymore. There is a now diminised value on my 3 month old Mustang GT.

Does anyone have any experience or a contact in handling a diminised value claim for warranty work with Ford Motor Corp?

Update: Almost 1000 miles on "brand new" Second Ford engine and it is now making the same noise it made before the prior engine was swapped out. Only 2500 miles on the clock. I will be taking it back to the dealer next week. If they determine its the same issue, which it should be as the noise is exact, then it will need engine #3.
After 20 years of owning Ford's I am at a point where I do not trust Ford and this needs to be bought back from them. Not sure on that process.
Any thoughts are appreciated.

Glenn - Sorry this took so long. Build date on door sticker is 11/18.
Just took it into dealer today 9/5/19 for round #3 of rattle/clatter heard with Engine #2. All they need to do is pull the oil filter and validate there are metal particles in it like last time.

Update: Ford has approved my buyback on my 2019 Mustang GT that only has a total of 3000 miles on it. Tough as I love driving the car!
I will probably be taking a break from Ford for a while after having been a loyal customer for the past 12 years. Its a shame it has come to this.

I'm having the same issue as described above by the OP... rattling or grinding between 2000 and 3000 rpm. The first trip to the Ford garage resulted in "unable to duplicate customer concerns". During the second visit, the mechanics were able to detect the noise and thought it sounded like it is coming from the "bottom of the engine", in which case they have to pull the engine to figure it all out.
After reading a couple of these posts, it seems I may be in for a fight. Can you share some information about how to claim the Lemon Law if I need to go that route?

Wow, that post from Cobra Jet was amazing! Thank you so much for that link. I'm going to contact the regional Ford CSR immediately and get this case started. The service rep at the dealer told me my car could be in the shop, inoperable, for weeks or months. That alone sounds like that may qualify me for the buy back program without having to have the same issue repaired multiple times. Thanks again Chris.

Same Issues 2020 Bullitt

Hello Gentlemen,

It's crazy to read about how many owners have this issue, sadly for me I have the same issue on my 2020 Bulllitt. She haves 4087 miles on her and the noise started at 3800ish miles.

I took her in to the dealer ship for a oil change and a full service check up, Ford said they couldn't find anything and like what was stated in this topic that it's normal. After reading this thread today, I will once again engage Ford about this issue.

Thank you for all the advice in this topic, now I can push forward with this great knowledge and deal with Ford.
