I work at a Ford dealership. We've sold quite a few 3.7's since their introduction in the 2009 model year (Lincoln got it first). They're in Mustangs, F-150's, Lincolns, Edge Sports, etc. and I'm not aware of a single failure. As a Mustang enthusiast on these forums, I've not heard of a 3.7 failure, just some noisy valvetrain stuff.

Sorry your 3.7 failed. I guess that's what warranties are for! I trust your dealer will get it fixed promptly.

Thanks Brian

At first I thought it was just a valve train noise, but after they diagnosed it they say it is in the bottom end on the number 3 cylinder and now have the engine out of the car.

Welcome to the forum, fordjimt. My name is Deysha with Ford Service. I’m sure you’re dealer will take care of this for you as well. Let me know if you need any further assistance.

So far the OP hasn't said it was a failure for sure, just that there was a noise that seems to the techs to have been coming from the bottom end and they had it out to diagnose it.

But, even if it is, there have not been any others reported on here or any other forum that I have seen. This is better than the GT's where there have been a few reported and they build lots more V6's than GT's.

OK, here is the latest on the engine. They pulled the engine out yesterday and today they are pulling the heads. They think it is a wrist pin, but I question that. I want everyone to understand that this car is driven as a daily driver and is not modified or raced. It only has 47K on it and has all of the required maintenance done on time. The dealer still cannot tell me what Ford is going to do. It seems it all depends on the cost factor. It has been 2 weeks and I still think Ford should have replaced the engine to begin with and did all of this teardown and inspection for quality control, since as far as I can find out, I am the first and only person to have an issue with the 3.7.

Get Deysha involved, get the issue escalated and talk to the Ford factory tech calling the shots.

Was it knocking? In rhythm with the rpm's?

You could also take it that I was busting about the #8 cylinder issue the V8s have, which I was. You obviously don't know me well or read my post much as you would know I don't bash the V6 stangs.... I defend them and there owners. Hell, I have defended theAce so many times about his "Boss" stripes on his car it's ridiculous.....

Chill out....

Send me a PM with your VIN, dealer, mileage, contact info, and a brief description of what's going on with your vehicle etc., fordjimt. I'll get back to you as soon as possible.
