Arin!, you beat me! its good to hear that you got your car back. I am so jealous, my dad and I are going to start up my stang this weekend which will be nice, but since my driveshaft, and cooler lines (trans) are still disconected I cant drive it. keep up the good work. STAR WARS?

Cool Here's an idea

Ok, your folks may not like this(more $)but with the manifolds swapped left for right so they face forward instead of back, you could build a nice single or twin turbo set-up, in fact, I believe the old Turbo-4 'stangs and 'birds turbos bolt directly to those manifolds. I could be wrong, thats happened a time or 2, but I think that I've seen it before way back in the pre-historic '90's.Just glad you've got her back, Arin!!!

Expanding on that idea, why not just loop each exhaust pipe around under the front suspension crossmember with a U bend and use sidepipes?

LOL as if I have any money left over for that lol. I've started to really think about all this, and what with the potential for fumes and fire and whatnot, i think im going to go hunting for some stock manifolds.

I've thought about that... but frankly there isnt enough space. I'm gonna try and get my grubby hands on some stock manifolds and possibly make that fit. Alot of the II guys at StangNet think I'm insane now lol, and they are probably right.

at least this way i dont have to sell my glasspacks anymore

And as for other news... the car drives GREAT! sure there are horrid vibrations at times, and its too loud to hear my radio sometimes as well

but man, aint no substitute for V8 power. Buzzing around town is freaking awesome. The steering is better than the mazda i was driving and its more comfortable to sit in than any car ive ever been in.I feel so much more confident in this car. In everythig else (mazdas, two bimmers) i feel like i need a mile of space between the buttocks of my car and the nose of a car in the lane i want to get into before i change lanes. torque torque torque, combined with an awesome driveability is the funnest thingever. I'm still not entirely used to this whole "warming up" thing, but hey, its worth it. I havent done any massive burnouts or donuts or anything reckless, but weaving through potholes and speedbumps throught the parking lot on my way to the exit every day is a joy! If any of you ever have the chance to drive a Mustang II, give her a whirl! i love the handling. I'm sure the bimmers i drove are probably better, but this is more FUN

Question for you guys...

When I drive my car on the freeway and get off the on the offramp, when there is a stoplight and I come to my first full stop, the entire car dies. No shudder, no vibration just *poof* its off. I'm not exactly sure why. I've solved the problem temporarly by shifting into neautral when i get to 5-10mph and just stopping. I mkeep the rpms up at about 1500 so it doesnt stall, and just let off the gas, shiftin into D and hit the gas again when its green.

Any idea why it's stalling on me? Sometimes it happens again at the next two or even three lights. Could it be the heat from the exhaust? Or is it something else?

Thanks a bunch for your help!

PS: Mustang II w/ no A/C or defroster + rain + night + stalling problem + sensitive steering + nearsighted drive (me lol) = unfun

Cool

I've had things like that happen to my '84, it could be anything!! Not to discourage you like that, but I kinda need more infomy '84 had electrical problems, but you're right, it could be the heat. Could be vacuum probs. or even something to do with the trans(not the most likely, though). I'd start by checking the distributor, my problem was down in the bottom, the little module was boken and would short out, killing the spark completely, then I had a short in the harness going to the ignition box. Of course, these things were not all at the same time, it did happen over several years!!!LOL!!

well i doubt it has to do with the vaccum lines or electrical issues... i think... since it NEVER happened with the V6 and the wiring harness is the same (they modified it to fit...

wait..

that might be causing it too sigh lol

i suppose it all adds to the Millenium Falcon-ness of my car lol

What do you have for a carb and fuel pump? Got a guage on it? Me neither!! LOL!! Was the motor carb'd to begin with? The wiring for the V6 would work for the V8, but there could be an issue of it just being old. I know my '66's wiring sucked so I bought some replacement wiring harnesses for it(still need the under dash harness, big $$). If its starting right back up, though, maybe it is from the heat, try running around with the hood off just around the neighborhood, but long enuf to have it stall. Good luck, Arin!!

I have a Holley Carb, not sure what kind, and the shop insalled an electric fuel pump, again, not sure what kind. The V8 in there was originally EFI, but I swapped the intakes.

I already know my underdash is shot as well. My panel lights are nonexistent, and even if my speedometer worked, i wouldnt know how fast i was going at night lol.

The car has never stalled IN the neighborhood unless it was right after i started it. That, I think, is just from me not letting the motor warm up. Every time that i have warmed it up she has been fine around town.

If it is the heat, im thinking it all builds up from the constant 3Krpm driving, and the heat stays there. The motor doesnt stall on the freeway because im moving at 60-70 mph. But as soon as i actually slow down enough to a speed where i can stall, it does so.

Can't wait til i just have a stick back in there so i can just hit the clutch lol

Cool avatar, Arin!! Any idea what they used for a distributor? The roller cammed motors used a different gear on the end of the cam to drive the dist., not to sure about the other motors, but I would start with checking out the electricals around the distributor. Of course, you could be on to something about the heat. How's the fan clutch? Did you get a new radiator? Just go thru it systematically, be patient, (yea, right) and it will work itself out. Start using your left foot on the brake so you can use your right foot to keep it running!!!

I was just looking back at your pictures and noticed you don't have a fan clutch!! No wonder they set the engine back a bit!! You have no room in there!!

Tell me about it. The radiator is new, but it came with a "made in china" sticker. thats never a good sign.

I'm not exactly sure what a fan clutch is...

Idunno about the left foot brake idea. My brakes aren't exactly the most reliable. sometimes i get no brake pressure 'til its floored, other times its right there and i barely have to tap it. go figure.

The distributor i *think* is the stock lincoln one. I'm also not sure how distributors work, so i dont really know what im looking for with that.

also... does anyone know how to hook up a speedometer? lol i know, its probably something simple, but i'm really not as mechanically inclined as most members of this board. i'm here to learn, after all.

also.. i was going through the garage and the box that the hedman hedders are in. does anyone know if the mustang II headers part 88350 are supposed to be in three peices on the passenger side? bec mine are. There are no cut marks though.. and the pipes slide into flanges (is that the right word?) i dont know how many of you have exposure to hedmans, esp for MIIs but heres some pics

you could be starving for fuel or suffering from fuel SLOSH , the last thing would be fast idel adjustment!

Cool

Are those the headers that the shop tried? I thought the problem was the drivers side? Dude, I'd start trying those on your car in a heart beat!! The pipes slip into one another so you can snake them around things in the way. Now, how to connect them, well, you are learning how to weld, right? There should've been some clamps with them too, not sure what kind to use, though, never had those before. Does your distributor have a small module bolted down below the cap? Thats the kind that Ford used for the EFI cars. If yours just has a couple of wires and a vacuum advance module(no wires, just a vacuum line), then thats what u need. A fan clutch is just an attachment that bolts to the fan, then to the pulley, that allows the fan to turn more when its cold, less when its hot. You probably don't have the room for one, though!!! LOL!!! Oh, and yea, the carb could be in need of adjustment.
