LOL.

Don't know if you guys from the South have seen this before, but my little nephews were here a few months ago to visit (middle school age) and we had a cook out at my grandmother's house.
Everyone fixed a plate, burgers, Conecuh dogs, baked beans, slaw, etc. and they sat down at the tables on the porch and never touched their food, not a single bean, until my grandmother got finished fixing her plate and sat down and started eating, then they started eating.

They don't eat until the host of the house they're at and all the adults start eating. And everyting is yes sir, no sir, yes ma'am, etc. and they don't dare set foot inside your house until they take their shoes off. Even if you tell them they don't have to, they take their shoes off automatically.

"Momma said not be takin' rides from strangers"

"This is the bus to school"

"I'm Forrest. Forrest Gump"

"I'm Dorothy Harris"

"Well now we ain't strangers anymore."

But all kidding aside, the South is one of the few places I've been in the entire country where people hold the door open for you when you walk into a place, even a convenience store , people always say 'yes sir and yes ma'am, and please and thank you for
EVERTHING, even to a waiter in a restaurant every time they bring something to the table". Its just the way we are taught, and if you don't do it, you get your **** whipped in the parking lot if you aren't polite to people in the store, restaurant, etc, and if you don't hold the door for your elders that are coming in behind you, lol. I don't think I've ever been in a Cracker Barrel when I didn't step aside and hold the door open for some older folks, or had some kids step aside and hold the door open for me.

I do pretty much all those things except the "sirs" and "ma'ams". That's just weird.

I recently went to lunch with my ex-wife. I try to remain civil.

As I always do when I go out to eat with a woman, I held the chair out to allow her to be seated first.

Then just as she was about to sit, I pulled the chair away.

Family dinners at any of my families houses are the same. Everyone fixes their plate and sits down, even if you are eating in another room cause there's not enough space at the main table, everyone waits to eat for someone to say blessing.

And on the dining out stuff, I get weird looks sometimes cause I'll say thank you to the waiter when they refill My glass or something. I agree with you entirely Lee on the south is generally nicer as far as respect and manners goes.

Had some dreams last night that were extremely vivid and very creepy when I woke up.
