The 5.0 Exploder has been squealing real loud when you first crank it for a few seconds, especially when its cold out. Thought it was one of the idler pulleys but wasn't sure which one. Plus my shoulder has been so ****ed up I just took it to my buddy's shop to let them fix it.
Wasn't either one. Cam synchronizer was going bad. Just went ahead and let them change the oil and rotate the tires while they had it, so that's one less thing I'll have to do this week. Time for my spring time haircut tomorrow.

My explorer has been squeaking too. Usually goes away after it warms up.

Looks like this....
Imagine that ****er locking up on the interstate in the middle of bumble**** Alabama, that would be no fun.
Google some stuff about it, you'll see plenty.
Not sure what kind of set up those have. This is basically what replaced the distributor when they went to the coil pack ignitions on Fords. It goes in the same hole where the distributor went, even looks like a distributor without the top part where the cap would go. Drives off the cam gear to send a signal when to fire and pulse the injector.
Looks like this....
That's what mine was doing. Apparently its a known problem at high mileage on these things. And since it drives off the cam gear just like a distributor, it also drives the oil pump like a distributor. If it locks up, well you can imagine whats going to happen. Glad I took it to him now, I thought about just waiting until I got back from vacation since I thought it was just a tensioner pulley and it wasn't doing it very much after the temps started warming up.

Mine wasn't a steady loud squealing when it did it, it was more like a fast chirping. I figure it would eventually go to a constant squealing sound the worse it got.
That looks way more involved than I'm capable of. I'd probably mess something up and just make it worse. It could just be a squeaky belt too. lol

One way to tell for sure if its that cam sync would be to take the belt off of it one morning when the car is cold and crank it up. If there's no racket, its something in the belt or pulleys. If there is the racket, its probably that cam sync.
