A friend of mine was with me and she had recently taken bartending classes and was filling me in on all the good stuff. To her, Smirnoff wasn't quite top shelf.

It isn't top shelf at all but its not well or rail liquor status either. Its mid range in the liquor store, but they're going to charge you top shelf prices in the bar if you order it.

I've seen something about the makers of Tito on a show called Texas Country Reporter here a few years ago. These guys look like and sound like good old boys.

I was at an air show here when the Russian's came , they always brought stuff to trade & if I had a ride into town to buy a VCR I could have traded for a ride in a MIG . Didn't happen but I did get a Russian bottle of this wodka

As far as overpriced liquor goes, I'd drink Belvedere over any of the other "high end" vodkas, but not if I was paying for it. If I was being a cheap **** I'd drink Svedka. For under $20 for 1.75L, it's not that bad, compared to Smirnoff or Absolut/Skyy.
