It will start idling rough, will barely idle at all. Its the Idle Air Control valve on the right side of the intake. Be careful taking it off, or you'll break a bolt. Drive it and get it hot first, then let it cool a bit before you take it off. You don't have to buy a new one, you can take it off and spray it full of carb or brake cleaner and scrub it with an old toothbrush and put it back on. If you do buy a new one, buy a Motorcraft and not some aftermarket one because it will fail in 6 months.
You'll probably have a coolant leak from the timing chain cover at some point (150K miles or so). It will be a ***** to get fixed because that 5.0 is really stuffed in there. Might as well put a new water pump on it at the same time if it hasn't had one put on, because its going to fail soon if its the original and that is just as much work to get to.

Don't get me wrong, I love that 2000 Limited 5.0, I'd buy a brand new one just like it right now if I could. Its coming up on 190K miles and I wouldn't get rid of it.
My 2001 XLT 4.0 SOHC is great as well. Its got 250K miles on it, had to put a motor in it at 220K, but everything else is great. It had a small oil leak around the pan (its a 2 piece pan) at 220K. And when my buddy tried to fix it, it has small pieces of plastic in the pan from the timing chain guides so I bit the bullet and let him put a Jasper replacement motor in it.
Only real problem with it was the power seat (driver's side) got weak and wouldn't move much. Hell, after 250K miles of fat asses what do you expect? There wasn't one available anywhere really, can't buy just the motor, its the whole seat track and motor together, there were 2 on earth basically through the Ford dealership and they were in south America (the motor assembly) and they were about 1200 dollars. I found a whole seat at a junk yard locally for 100 bucks, took the power track part of it out and swapped it into mine and it works like new now. Got an extra seat of the wrong color tossed in one of my storage buildings now, lol.

I'm glad to know you like yours so well. I'm hoping mine will last me a while. I found out today it was owned by a couple in their 60s, so I think that explains the shape it's in. They must have had seat covers because they're tan and they look brand new.

Got any pics of the interior? My 01 is tan cloth, my '00 Limited is tan leather. I can tell you a lot of little things to look for, I've spent a lot of time in these vehicles.

I just have the dealer pics. I haven't had time to get good pics. It's always dark by the time I get home from work and I never have time in the morning. One of these days I'll get some better ones though.
