Well, I'm sure it varies from state to state, but in general with the situations I've seen it usually shakes out like this. If the trees are healthy and an act of God causes them to fall its usually on you. However, if the trees are dead, leaning, unhealthy, etc. and there was a reasonable suspicion that they could fall and damage your property, or if you had brought these deficiencies to their attention, they could be liable, even if an act of God caused them to come down.

After a few bad storms and then April 27th, I went on a binge, bunch of Virginia and loblolly pines, about 40 in all. Basically anything tall enough to reach the house and big enough to go through it.

The last two that had me worried..

well i have to drive my new car in it tomorrow so it will be something to be careful of since my old car (honda civic) was HORRIBLE in it...i just hate snow and everything that goes along with it
