Take all the crap off to get down to the engine, then cam cover, front cover, then intake and exhaust manifold, take the chain off the cam, pull the head, fix it on a bench. Then reassemble in reverse order. Its a great experience.

Label stuff with masking tape if need be, take pics each step of the way, and/or buy a manual.

Looks like the Notch is going to be resurrected as a DD.

He might have gotten lucky. Once the plug is loose, it doesn't take much for it to back out. For what it's worth, I've never put a plug in with a torque wrench. Maybe I was lucky. Lol

Notch isn't getting used in snow ever again! Plus it's freezing outside. And with me doing it, I'd only run into more problems.

I agree... but I've got the feel.

I pretty much only torque head bolts & cam towers (although Ford is integrated with the head).

Ok, I shined a flashlight down the hole and it looks like the threads are still there, but it's really hard to tell for sure. I tried screwing the plug back in with the torque wrench and it seemed to tighten just fine, so I assume they're still there although they could still be slightly stripped. Didn't try starting it or anything. No idea what crap might have gotten down in there...

Yep. Head bolts I use a torque wrench. Overhead camshaft fasteners maybe.

Just make sure the plug that came out is in one piece.

So I shouldn't need to worry then? What about cleaning out below the plug? Charlie mentioned that before, but it's all above my head. And should I replace the one plug just to be on the safe side?

May be a good idea to torque all the rest of them for good measure.

I'll do that later. Maybe when I replace the COP. Due for an oil change as well. Might as well just do it all at once. Should the plug still be ok to use then?

A slight ticking noise is clue to the plugs about to blow out. My old boss was complaining about his expedition ticking, then leaving work he had 2 plugs to blow out. He got that fixed and the tick went away

Mine was ticking, but I thought I had an exhaust leak from my h pipe scraping the chunks of ice in my driveway.

Start it and WOT immediately. Any loose carbon will blow out.

Since you haven't created any filings you should be AOK.
