I have the Unisyn for syncing the twin DCOE40's on my Lotus (that has not run in 15 years). It has OHC. You set the valve clearance by changing a shim underneath a cam follower. You have to measure the clearance, then remove the exixting shim, mic it then calculate the size you need for the correct clearance. Lucky it is a four banger so you dont need many different shim sizes
First time I adjusted the valves, I did the math, got all the shims set and torqued down the cam towers. And I was off across the board by .002. Checked my math and Ugh! Should have been correct. Called Dave Bean Engineering and they said I forgot to allow for the bead of sealer between the cam towers and the head. So I had to pull, re-sort the shims and then it was correct. Just wouldn't have thought the sealer was .002.
.05-.07 IN, .10-.12 EX is what my memory is flashin'. I'd bet money... and its been 20 yrs+! lol
Stock was 2 Strombergs with the oil dampers. I put the Webers on it later. Proud of myself for self taught skills on a not-so-easy engine.
Not my engine bay, but mine was Mustard. The cam covers are supposed to be black though with the top sanded for the ribs and Jensen-Healey to stand out. This dweeb stripped em.

The header was a real booger. Its like they dropped the engine in as a slant 4, got ready to drop the 'bonnet', and said "duh... guess we need to squeeze a header under there somehow". lol
Only way to get to it was unbolt an engine mount, jack up the engine, take out the steering shaft, and then you could get to the nuts on the studs. If they had used just bolts it would have made it a bit easier.
So I WON'T be putting longtubes on #901.
