I wish I had a basement. I guess its time to start building that bunker full of food and guns with all of the things going on with the government now. (puts on tinfoil hat 
) I actually thought about it today, I passed a 379 Peterbilt pulling an oversized flatbed trailer that had the biggest CAT generator I've ever seen on it. I thought, "****, I could use that!"

So glad we have ours. It's nasty and stored full of old junk, but at least there's somewhere to go if needed. I know what you mean. The goddamned tweaking meth heads around here are stealing the bronze head stone plaques and flower vases from cemeteries to sell at the recycling places. An acquaintance of mine has a pretty big junk yard of old cars. He heard the dogs barking one night and went out to see what was up. He walked up on a couple of guys out there, they were stealing radiators. The guy jerked his hand up and he saw a flash of something shiny and thought it was a gun. He shot him in the head with his .45, and it turned out what the guy was holding was a ratchet with an extension and socket on it. He hasn't been right ever since killing the boy.

Why do so many people in the south not have basements? You'd think with all the storms, that would be a top priority. So glad we have ours. It's nasty and stored full of old junk, but at least there's somewhere to go if needed.

You havent ever dug through red clay mud have you. Ive seen backhoes break hydraulic arms while digging in this stuff we have here.
I would have a basement, but it honestly cost a ton to do. Most people get a storm shelter put in place.. in the side of a hill or something of that nature.

I know the little boy that died here three years ago didn't have basement because the house was built too close to a pond.
Even our cabin built on bedrock has a basement. Really not much of a basement, but at least it's below ground.

Ya, its not the same. The ground down here is hard as a *****'s heart. If you've never worked with Ga. red clay, you don't know what your dealing with. Especially in the mountain regions. I had a septic system dug one time, and they had to run a ditch about 200ft. from the house for the pipe to it. They dug the hole for the tank and put it in, but when they started to dig the ditches to lay the field lines in a location where it would perc they hit a vein of rock about 50 feet out that was so deep and wide they had to scratch the whole project and start in another location. Cost many thousands of dollars for that little dig that ended up going nowhere.
