Don't worry about it. Hook it up normal. I've just never had good luck with the factory radio ground. Grounds are my nemesis. Much like nuts are for Nathan.

Thankful for MCTC!

And for Scothew... for not locking it even though we probably deserved it more than a couple of times.

That sucks Lee. Hope you get better soon. **** muscle cramps

The Mazda was broken in yesterday @ the mall while I was at the bank buying the yearly permit sticker and insurance for it. The driver's side glass was shattered to try and get the radio, but due to the way I installed it, they gave up and fled. The faceplate was lying on the parking brake console. The new glass will arrive tomorrow afternoon. Bye bye money

But that incident won't tarnish my day, so I got busy to distract myself. I scored four 15 x 6.5" wheels for the Protege. They need some TLC, since the finish was a little beat up. I'll paint them Graphite.
Here's how they looked before some sanding:

After I sanded them down:
This one was painted black previously, but I changed my mind.

I can't identify the brand, but they say "made in England" I saw some letters in the front between two spokes "MC" or something

Hey Charlie,

Do you like The Black Keys? I've really started to get into their music lately (especially since the intro song for the series Hung on HBO, and several movies). Then I heard one of their songs on a Zales commercial the other day too.

Not my favorite song of theirs, but I love this video. The little girl is adorable, not to mention the MILF.

If you haven't heard of them, search "the black keys" on youtube and see what you think of them. I like the simple old style blues/rock sound they have.

I think this is almost magical. I don't know the rest of their music, but the composition and the lead vocals is just amazing.

hey gary and nathan, I got a couple questions looking at this wiring thing, just to be sure

"dimmer" is the same as "lighting switch terminal"?
"12 volts switchd power"is the same as ""ignition switch"
right?

there's a ground from the actual unit's wiring, but the crutchfield adaptor has a black wire for a ground, should I just tape that one off?

I've got a violet/white wire to connerct to the back lamp to enable the unit to sense when the car is moving in revers, what's that about?

and do I have to connect the parking brake wire?

Oh man. Where to start?

"dimmer" is the same as "lighting switch terminal"? ask Nathan, but it should be

"12 volts switchd power"is the same as ""ignition switch"? well you've got 2 power sources. One is constant power and the other is switched. So yes, its the same. I think.

the ground? You've got to connect the units ground to something. You can use the factory wire ground, or you can ground the unit to a metal part of the car that's connected to the body.

the violet/white wire is a switched wire if you are connecting a back up camera. If you are not doing one, you won't need it. But it taps the reverse lights and tells the unit to display your camera, instead of you music.

The grounding to the parking brake must be connected for the DVD screen to work, unless you want to trick it into thinking the car is stopped like I did. But the tricks are different for different units. Unless you intend to watch movies while driving, which is illegal, then you need to just connect the wire to the parking brake as instructed. That way when the parking brake is engaged, you will be allowed to watch movies in the car.

Edit: I need more info. You've bought the head unit and you got a wiring harness adapter for your car. You've removed the factory radio. Why can't you just plug in the supplied harness into the factory harness. Are really having to clip and join all the factory wires with the deck wires. That blows!

no there's an adapter, but you have to connect the HU wires to the adapter connectors, then that plugs into the factory wiring

the parking brake thing has one of those weird clamps, can I just cut the wire later, and crimp it to the video bypass I'm going to make? I'd assume so

Well I'm outta here.

Take some pics David.

Also there should at least be a color guide from Crutchfield on the stock wiring colors and what they are and then you have you deck wiring colors. But I guess maybe that's why you were asking if "name x"="name y" wasn't it.

OK that's good news.

Make your connections outside the car. I usually wire up my adapter to me units wires or adapters. Getting the red, orange, yellow, black, and then the green, grey, white, purple speaker wires out of the way.

You should be left with a blue/white wire which is your remote turn on lead if you add an amp or something in the future. Then of course that purple wire for the reverse lights. And then the RCA's however they connect. Plus theres that wire for the antenna.

You also said you had satellite which a whole different thing.

Do you have a bluetooth adapter or ipod adapter too?

Hecksa wires.
