The truck I sold only about 8 weeks ago with only 30,000 miles on it...

the tranny blew. Parts were grinding and it needs a rebuild. The only warranty on the 2006's was a 3/36k warranty. In 2007 they added a 5/60k powertrain warranty. So basically the guy is screwed. I can't believe this happened. No warning whatsoever. And no way this guy did anything to make this happen. It's some really freaky stuff. The guy called me and I went down to the dealer to see what I could do and nothing. No warranty coverage at all.

I think its bull**** that Ford had no warranty beyond 3 years on the transmission and motor at least back in 2006. Complete B.S. But what can I do about it? That's just the way it is.

He's not asking me for anything, but why does **** like this happen. I sell something that always worked flawlessly for me and then boom. It breaks for the next guy.

You should pay for a new tranny for it.

I thought they had 5/50 powertrain warranty on everything for a long time now.

I looked it up on the website year by year. They had it before 2006 and of course from 2007 till now. But not that particular year and a few years before it. I was dumbfounded by it, but it was there in black and white on Fords website and the manager at teh dealer confirmed it for me. I mean that's insane.

Note to self: Never buy a car form that crook Gary.

Seriously, I would feel like crap if that happened to me. I can't stand the thought that someone may think I screwed them on a deal. I've always prided myself on the fact that I try to be fair to people, at times even to the detriment of my situation.

Ouch, that sucks. My dad had to replace the transmission on his truck, but it has over 100k miles. Gonna pass up the notch one of these days.

I just don't get it. I really don't.

Of course he said he checked fluid and it was at the right level and not burnt at all. Nice and pink. I honestly had no warning that anything like this would happen. I never had an ounce of trouble with it. I never abused it in any way.

Being the person that I am I feel like helping him out a little but my wife says no. But then I feel like if I do help it will make me look guilty when I'm absolutely not. The best tranny shop in town that he is going to and I agree the guy is the best, is looking at about $1,800 for a rebuild.

The thing that sucks of course is that this is someone I know. Someone I see on a weekly basis. I feel like putting $900 in an envelope and handing it to him and saying you didn't get this from me. I know I don't have to.

In Garys defence I do not recall him having trouble and who knows how it's new owner test drove it ? 8 of 10 times they bag the hades out of them and then come back and lay a guilt trip

This guy is a good guy. This is just a case of very bad luck. He's a hardworking guy, though he is a banker, that is nothing but honest. He is completely full of character. That's why I repaired the brakes and made sure all the recalls were done before I handed it over to him. I would hate to think that he would think I screwed him.

Honestly, that is exactly what I would do. Not only for my own peace of mind, but if it is an ongoing relationship (especially if it is business related) I would do it as a sign of good faith.
That is one of the main reasons I try to avoid doing business with family or friends.

Well. I think I learned that here today. I already knew not to sell to relatives.

Honestly $900 isn't gonna hurt anything, and it might be worth it to me in the future because it is a business relationship. You get it Lee. We are simpatico.

I learned a long time ago that you have to look past a short term loss, and focus on what could be a long term gain. You never know what might pop up 2 years from now that you might need help from that guy. It may never happen, but I can guarantee that he won't forget that you manned up and did what an honorable man would at least offer. Hell, he may not even accept it (I wouldn't if the shoe was on the other foot) but by God I would know what kind of man he was. A guy might have the biggest house, the hottest wife, the fastest car, and longest pecker, but he ain't s#!t without character. That is what makes a man a man.
