2016 SHELBY GT350R 7.32.19 NURBURGRING LAP
#21
My mistake. I looked last night and thought I read it came out in 2010. Not sure what I was thinking. So to correct my statement, that makes things worse for the Z only being 1 yr old.

The R's time is speculative at best and we don't know Ford or GM's test method for determining lap times if this time which seems to be from a less than reliable source is indeed real.
About the only thing you can say is that these two cars were run on different days using unknown testing methods with drivers of unknown quality.

It's pretty obvious that they both most likely used top notch pro drivers. Unknown test method? The lap times are from the start line to the finish line. It's not like we're talking about dyno numbers here. Lap times on a track are all measured the same way. Plus, after weeks of testing I'm sure used their best time to announce on record.
So that being said, if the numbers are real, the driver, "method", and day don't matter. It would be crazy for Chevy to release their official Ring times with anything less than the best circumstances.

IIRC GM just uses its engineers to do their runs, nobody fancy
and coincidentally another reason to suspect the clickbait buffoons at Horsepower Kings pulled the time from their rectum
http://jalopnik.com/corvette-chief-e...ime-1682322557
Tadge Juechter, Corvette's chief engineer is saying the time claimed by Horsepower Kings is fabricated.
So this is the second story by those ding-dongs repudiated by a manufacturer. First Ford and the demise of the V8 in two years and now GM calling them out for lying about the Z06's 'ring time.

I wouldn't believe any the HPkings post. Everything I've seen from them has been garbage.
Also, don't forget that there is NO SUCH THING AS AN OFFICIAL NURBURGRING LAP TIME. There is no official timing system there. There is no third party organization certifying times. Unless they've changed it since I was lapping there a couple years ago. The way the track setup you can't even pass a start/finish line. You exit the track after every lap into the hot pit area. This may be different when a company rents out the whole facility for a day but this is how it is on regular "open" days.

Looks like official times to me....https://nurburgringlaptimes.com/lap-times-top-100/
PS. Manufacturers have to submit telemetry, video, and tire info on a official form before announcing the times.

There is no third party certification process. Testers could easily take several cars modified differently and submit the data as it it was from a stock car. There are several interviews with Ford execs where they say the same thing I said. That it why Ford doesn't advertise their times.

I would believe the time if I saw in car video of Sabine Schmidt driving it around the full course Ring. SCCA national championnnnnnn word vomit compared to the Queen of the Ring. I'm not saying he's not fast but not Sabine on the Ring fast.
