Better late than never and not looking back knowing he could have had a paid for BOSS.

 

GOOD FOR HIM! Hind sight is 20/20. I'm sure he wishes he trailered it home too. My Guess is that I would have done the same thing. With good intent, thinking I would just keep it and drive it, drove it home. Then, with everyone going crazy and calling constantly, its easy to change your perspective. I hope he gets a Free Boss out of it!

 

I'm surprised he didn't put a "Buy It Now" price of $100k or more on it. I think it's worth it to the serious collector. Given the choice between driving it or sitting on it, selling it to someone who's going to park it and getting another that he can beat on makes the most sense.

Think everyone is missing the point, some things you can't put a price on (well to a point). Six is great but nothing like pulling up in no. 1. The car was meant to used and driven not sit in a closed up place where no one will see. One of the things about finding rare old muscle cars is the story behind it, even if it is well used and needs a total resto it still has value. That is exactly the great thing about that car, even if it is well used it will hold the value better then the rest.

If someone buys it and puts it away under plastic, then what it gets resold to see the same and when that person sells it years from now do you think they will get more of a return on the money then other means, I bet they lose in that respect. It is his car and he is surely free to do what he wants with it but by selling it kills a truly great story on how it came to be in a regular guys garage by pure luck, what a shame it will not be tearing up the road like all it's brothers and sisters

Remember a lot of Shelby people thought the cars would increase in value when they first came out. Just MO, I'll stop ranting now

I love what he writes in the ebay desription.

"This car is listed for the serious collector, not those of you looking to find a Boss 302 for a standard driver."

Then further down he writes:

"I will say again, this listing is not for someone looking for a normal Boss 302, this is for high-end collectors that appreciate the worth of this car in a few years and its historical value."

More:

"I don't have the space or desire to own a garage queen."

Then finally he writes:

"If i keep it the car will be a daily driver carting my kids around, picking up groceries, burning up the race track on weekends and making the car show circuit."

and love this......

So we have those who believe he should drive it and not care about the car's potential to be a collector. Then on the flip side, we have those who favor keeping it as a collector piece and either maintain it as a "garage queen" or sell it to a collector.

The question: What side of the fence is Shane on?

All the threads he created, with a lot of community support, stating he will drive it regardless of what potential value it might have or hold. Now he is waving the collector flag. Then again he states, if he doesn't get double the cost, he's keeping it for a daily driver.

I personally thought he should have marketed it and sold the Boss #0001 as a collector while maintaining the Factory/Dealer miles as delivered.

If you think about it, any offer above his total paid price will put him in a better position than he started with, including a purchase of a another Boss he can drive. Also, no more collector piece hanging over his head.

Absolutely agreed.

His car, his choice... but the "personal history" would be worth far more to me. For so many "stars to align" for him to get it and then to just flip it just seems... well it wouldn't be for me, let's just say that.

 

lol, in the end i will keep it if i need to. there is more going on than i can talk about right now. Once i figure out what to do i will let you guys in on all that has been going on. i don't want to sell it, i put those for a collector thing sin there so some normal guy like me wouldn't get his hopes up thinking that starting bid was anywhere near what the car would go for or at least what I would sell it for. I never bought the car to flip, you have to know your buying something out of the norm to buy to flip. i had no idea until i bought, but that story is old.

anyway, it comes down to this, at the end of the day I feel nervous around the car since its #0001. I took it to a car show this weekend and worried to much about someone scratching it or stealing the vin plate on the intake to enjoy myself. I worried the whole way up there riding with my friends form the mustang club that it would get a rock chip or a door ding. I don't like worrying about a car, i've never done that and don't want to start. so its there on ebay to see what happens at a price that only peopel with enough money to not worry about money will be able to touch. i would love to get one i just don't need to worry about, im just not in the position to be able to buy another car and leave this one sitting and i don't want to do that anyhow.

 

Shane.....my '05 GT with 17k on the clock is treated like a garage queen, so I can't imaging how I'd be with Boss #1!

If I were in your shoes, I'd probably do the same thing...........with one small difference. I'm the second owner of my car and, unless my financial situation took a nose-dive (not that difficult to imagine, these days ) I hope to keep it for as long as I can drive. Then I'll be handing the keys to my children and hope they keep it for their children.

However, if #1 only has a limited life with you, you're better off trading now whilst it's in the prime of health and Boss-Fever is making us all hot and sweaty.

The fact you'll be able to drive a "free" Boss is pretty darned cool in my book! I'd get my name down for a '13 right now

You have a chance to make some money due to good luck. Go ahead and take it.

If I were an advice giving person, I'd recommend taking some of the proceeds and donating it to a charity, but I'm not going to tell you what to do with your money.

I want to agree with you, but, at the same time, when was the last time you saw a #0001 vehicle in the hands of a commoner? Typically those are reserved for execs, and don't trickle out to just anyone.

 

I don't disagree, and like I said I hope he gets all he can get, but I'm not gonna call him a crook either

You know all those investment commercials that disclaim how past results do not guarantee future performance? I think it applies to this case and IMO he should take the money and run - even if that auction doesn't go up a penny more. There's no guarantee that collectors are really going to care about BOSS #1 30 years from now.

 

 

Shane get all you can order a 2013 maybe no. 0001 again, pay off bills buy a 2010 GT for a cheap for DD till the 2013 comes in. You are in a great drivers seat anything you do is the right move. No worries!!
