Maybe something wasn't communicated right or I misinterpreted, but how do you go from being Financially Sound (100% pay, almost no debt, plenty of savings/"huge amount of disposable income") to Financial Ruin, where you need ~100k immediately, so quickly by simply having a 50% pay cut?

Also, your explanation of the ebay thing doesn't make a lot of sense. You were very clear that the car wouldn't go unless it hit six figures there, so I don't understand the "well at least now i will still be able to buy a used termi, it went up more and I thought, wow maybe i can get a 10GT like my old one back, it went up again and i thought hey now i can get a 11GT." It wasn't going to go unless it got past reserve, so why were you entertaining ideas of owning other mustangs?

And finally, forgive me, but if you're this bad off now, why not take the money and hold off getting a mustang all together until you're back on your feet? A Boss302, even a free one, isn't going to be economical given gas prices.

Still, glad everything worked out how ya wanted it.

Big Vito is right.

By your own words your preference was to sell to the local collector so if you did not played the collector you played the eBay bidders. Even if the reserved was met there was little chance your car would wind up in any of their hands. But it's a good move if it turns out you trade or exchange your car for another Boss the collector would purchase, you just might be able use the a loophole and avoid the taxes.

i wasn't in ruin, i just couldn't keep the car. i didn't want to say that at the time so potential bidders weren't tempted to hold out and see if it would go cheaper so i said i didn't need to sell it and wanted six figures, and luckily it went there.

anyway, Ive offered way more info than i should have to for what amounts to a bunch of strangers in reality and that's all i want to say about that so lets move on

the colelctor was out of the running and i didnt expect him to come up, yes it was my preference to seel to him sicne he is local and we ahve soem of the same clubs and interests in common. i had every intention of selling to ebay bidders until this morning when he came back with a better offer. i feel like you guys are thinking about this too much and trying to find some way to make me out to be a bad guy here, im not. i shoud have jsut siad yay it sold and not try to offer an explanaiton of why it happened. im not that good at keeping quiet sometimes.

i feel bad for teh ebay bidders, but thre was no guarantee that a winner would hit reserve or that the winning bidder woudl actually pay. i took the bird in the hand rather than hold out ofr more on teh auction and then wait potentially weeks to get the money when the locla buyer will pay the car off before the first payment is due and i didnt have to search for the new car myself.

I'm not thinking about this too much at all. Just the numbers and situations you presented didn't make sense to me.

I didn't mean any offense by it.

While I have no dog in this fight, I do question that if your Income has dropped so much how one would be so concerned with still having a Boss? I would think that u would just take the money and get the car down the road when finances get squared away.

no offense, they probably still dont make sense, i wasnt sitting here with a calculator makign exact numbers, just trying to get an idea across (badly i guess). if it makes no sense to you tryin being on this side of everything that has happened in the last 2.5 weeks with this car. teh main idea is going from thousands of dollars extra each month, to in teh red on a budget with nothing you can really skip or delay and only a few things to cancel makes it difficult.

wtf removed bids...this thing was at 95K last night!

Also--why not just start your auction at 95k with no reserve, and the same time limit to bid?

I've lost a job before.

Priorities Change.

Just think Shane.... if you had bought Boss #2275 you'd be stuck with it, and not be able to afford it. Glad everything worked out for you and your family!

Not in the least, if anyone has made this issue an open book signing it is you.

I don't perceive you as a bad guy for looking out for the your best interests or those of your family, just the oppoosite. I commend and congratulate you on your success, but that does not exclude your intentions, what can be read between the lines, and conclusions drawn from your actions. Here at TMS there will be lots of cheering as well as some guys calling a spade a spade.

Perhaps you were dealing honest ebay bidders but that does not exclude the possibility there were a bunch of hacks as well. It's business. I recently was played like a yo-yo in a real estate deal and I know how it feels to build one's hope and dreams only to find out the only accomplishment was to be used as a pawn. I wound up doing better but it not always turns out that way, and it didn't for any good intended eBay bidders.
