The regular 6-gauge oil pressure 'gauge' isn't real. It only has two states, the sender is actually a switch. The LS Boss uses a different sender so that the gauge pack will work properly.
For the V6/GT 'gauge' - see page 413-01-36 of this section of the shop manual. You will see that the gauge is really just an idiot light with moving parts, and the signal comes from a switch and not a sender.

The existing 4-gauge cluster just has the usual idiot light for oil pressure.

I would have expected some kind of factory sensor/switch. So, there's no gauge depicting H-L for oil pressure, but there is a warning light and possibly chime if oil pressure drops to zero or below a preset psi?

Correct. I have also attached the gauge cluster info from the Boss owner's supplement for comparison.
